ok, my dad is a middle aged man, he pays £300 for his group 8 car, his previous car (group 3) was £300
Now how does that help?
by this logic all insurance for a middle aged man is £300.
My uncle is also middle aged, he too runs a group 8 car and pays £200, his previous car a group 1 was £260.Now how does that help?
by this logic all insurance for a middle aged man is £300.
My house mate, middle aged, running a group 6 car, pays £400, previous car group 15, £375
My brother in law, middle aged, running a group 4 car, pays £500, previous car group 9, £500
There you go, six examples, please show me the pattern or super secret group base rate code. As has been mentioned, we're not trying to be arsey, we're just giving you the honest answers.

You could always just run a bunch of quotes on aggregator sites, changing only the vehicle each time.. (grab some VRMs and hit confused.com)
Yes, this, exactly. Has anyone done it? I just wanted to see if anyone on PH could save me some time.A few years ago Octane Magazine did a special edition called Classic Sports Car Buying Guide, and in it were 'typical' quotes for the 38 cars from Footman James. The value of the car and excess were representative of what each car would cost, if I can find it I might look up the more modern cars and type the value/cost/excess/IG's into this thread.
42,
it is that complex a question, one insurer might like your area but dislike 2 seat sports cars, another my hate your area but love 2 seat sport cars. The only way to get any idea is to run up your short list of cars then get some real quotes, also what holds this month may be different next month when a raft of BMW's have been stolen or repair costs for Daihatsus go up.

Actually they all live in the same postcode and have all held full licences for 32 years and are born within 6 months of each other, but that is actually besides the point. OK, I'll go look for that magazine...
The point is if you look at the two prices for each person (in all cases the cars have been owned in the same policy year), with each of them being very different cars, there is no rhyme or reason for how it works, you also should listen to ZOLLAR on this one, he works in the industry after all, if anybody has got a grip on it, it's him.
