I only saw this thread last Thursday and all the positive reviews have convinced me. Yesterday I bought onespin

Originally I was looking for a Swift but didn't like the higher running costs since the idea was a cheap run around with a little bit of poke and a big smile on the face. Clio was the other consideration but prefer Japanese robustness and ergonomics.

Really fun, really enjoying it at the mo.biggrin

Have driven both, only owned the Iggy. Clio is much quicker in a straight line, and pretty much everywhere else. The IS wouldn't know which way the Clio went in a drag. In the bends it's closer, the Clio has more overall grip, but the transtion from slip to grip is similar.

Expect higher running costs with the Clio. Any of the lads I know with 172 have reported there's a bit more preventive maintenance required to keep them sweet. Most of the suspension components are regarded as consumables. But I expect that's all part of its Gallic charm. Iggy just needed regular oil changes (c. every 6000mls I think.)Interiors both have good seats, the Iggy's was a bit more durable, though it looks dated now. It's also quite upright. The steering wheel on every 172 I've sat in has gone scruffy by now as well.
I can imagine. The earliest hot Clio I've driven is a 182, but that was a properly quick little car.

I think it's all about fun factor with small hatches, though. If you can throw it around at more manageable speeds that's practically a bonus.

I Picked up an Ignis Sport last Monday, never looked at them before this article, started looking and picked up a 2004 50k 2 owner car for £1800 so can't argue!
Lovely to drive, quite hard suspension though, feels a lot harder than the 2001 Saxo VTR it replaced.

I like it apart from the boot is a lot smaller than the Saxo and the suspension is a lot harder giving a harsh ride.

Sounds quite a hardcore little car - I'd like to try one.
Aircon would have been handy in the Saxo

Yes it's a shame no UK Saxo had it, all due to the wiper design apparently?

Hey guys, any idea of what these beasts are like in a crash? getting conflicting info at the mo.

I'm taking it an Ignis would be a good, more modern replacement for a Peugeot 106?

Thanks!

4 out of 5 ncap rating I believe, it has to be better than a 106.

Can't be worse than the pug biggrin

Only hearing good things from owners but pretty sure it hasn't been NCAP'd. Wiki says there the same as the Japanese swift of the same age.

I almost feel ashamed that despite starting this thread I am yet to buy one. Still really want an iggy sport though. Just need the funds first!
I never did ask, are there any good performance mods to get some more power with out going down the FI route?

Why do people bang on about the seats? Recaro, innit?

The Recaro's are naff. Bum slides around going briskly round bends. The headrest with the netting looks queer.

The stereo is crap. The dashboard is pretty much crap.

Saying that, I'm up for buying one as My First Project Track Day Car.

It's a prety revvy wee thing anyway. I wonder if anyone does hotter cams for it?

question guys.. rear pads are down to the wear markers (squeeeeel) and I've ordered/received some new ones. Easy job I thought to replace them so whipped the wheel off to find a pretty potchy setup which (I think) requires a specialist tool to wind the piston back in before replacing the pads. damn.

Have I missed anything here? I'm going to be on the metal soon and I've already spoken to one garage that won't change them over for me as I'm supplying my own parts.. damn damn..

So, what have I missed and what can I do to get the darn goshed pads in..

Maybe you have an abnormally miniscule backside? I find them extremely conformable and supportive.
