Sorry, but if you can't take any notice of your speedo, due to lack of self control, what makes you think you can take any notice of a gizmo on the dash?
No need to be sorry.

I can't see my speedo when i am looking at the road, I don;t have a heads up display. I now drive with my head down alot checking and double checking, I can;t risk it.

When you come to a speed camera do you look at the speedo and not at the road to check you speed even for a split second ? Thats what I have to do literally all the time I am driving, i can't slip up once not even for a short amount of time for the next 2 years.

I figured a noisy audio signal of the speed limit along with better more considered driving would help me drive heads up, safely and stay in the speed limit.

That's about 30 years too new. You want a Series 2 diesel to go slow. If the engine and tranny noise doesn't do it then the leaf spring ride quality will!

LOL, I had a auto now have a slow box, it isn't the acceleration I am scared of ( I have ridden motorbikes for years, none of the points are for bikes )it is that drive down a 30mph road that opens up to a 50mph, it starts widening, you thinking of something else check your speed, your needle is just over the thirty but still there, carry on, slight downhill slope, your in a high gear for the long road, and before you know it your doing 36, very easily done and easy to correct but I can't/ don;t want to go over.

My TomTom XL Classic tells me whenever I'm over the limit at all times, not just near a camera (well it would do, if I ever went over the limit paperbag )
TomTom XL Classic you say ?

Fanking you sir

Any one know of anything that could make my garmin do this wonderous thing ?
Tomtom will change the speed background to red when you go over the limit, anc.d you can add an audible warning too. But (and this is a biggie) lots of roads dont have a speed limit in the tom tom so its not brilliant. And you have to go a few mph over for a few seconds for it to decide to warn you.

You wont be able to rely on any satnav , so it looks like 18 months of paying close attention to road signs etc

It highlights your speed in red if your over the limit for the road. also keeps you under the average speed cams on motorways, roadworks etc..The speed limits are based on the maps and are sometimes out of date but mainly accurate.
So it knows the speed limit on all roads, not just ones with cameras ?

Can you get it to make a sound/alarm if you're over the limit ?

What model do you have gary ?

Cheers bud

Buy a car with the biggest, most gas guzzling engine you can afford. With the price of fuel at the moment, your wallet will kick you in the 'nads if you get too enthusiastic.

I would like something that monitors my speed and warns me when I am above the speed limit, I have been looking at road angels but not sure if they don;t just tell you when your over the limit near a camera ( essentially what my sat nav does ). I would like something that keeps me in check all the time.

What an embarrassing thread. "I can't drive so is there a device that can do it for me?" Yes, it's called a bus.

Not much positive to add, but had to have a wry smile at the irony of Tampon slagging off Doofus for his name...

Anyway, try driving a Jimny.

I bought one because I needed a cheap 4WD. I haven't driven anything so slow since I sold a 1974 Land Rover.

My apologies, I misread your post. I thought you'd said that you were 1mph over the speed limit.

Don't forget that Navis are only useful for this if the maps are uptodate, and they never are, so don't rely on them at all. I went through a similar experience some time ago. Just drive like an angel.
