Sounds like a great idea to me - anything to balance out driving an MPV at the weekends without breaking the bank economy-wise.

I can understand why they appeal to people. In my opinion it just destroys the TT's credibility as a "sports" car. However, Audi don't care about people like me, and nor should they. They sell cars, and market them well, to thousands of people.

What I cant deal with is the uneducated twonks, droning about how quick and torquey it is and how it's loads better then a petrol.

Its not, you have been brain washed into thinking it is by the marketing propaganda. Its a hateful, dull, characterless engine, that's weight ruins an already average cars handling.

But it looks pretty.

You are mistaking opinion, for fact.

3 different people

what do you drive?

renault clio

what do you drive

vw passat

what do you drive

porsche (not mentioning the model as to make the questioner assume its a much higher spec or higher model.)

Yes a very narrow minded opinion i have of the car i'll admit its a great car but the tt diesel suffers from the same syndrome imo.

awaits flaming!

It does have 170bhp, bare in mind that the old model had a 150 and 180 bhp version, and the derv will have a hell of a lot more torque.

That said i`d prefer a TTRS smile

He's trying to say that people would buy it for the badge, and some might even say in conversation they drive an Audi but not say the model, so people assume it's something flash.

Kinda like someone who buys the cheapest base model bmw with no options who then when asked what car they drive
can say "I drive a bmw"

I doubt they buy a tt just for the badge, tts are to the average joe a very nice sporty looking car, infact I can't imagine the average joe simply saying they drove an audi when asked what car they drove.

I'm sure they would throw in the fact it was a tt.

Unless he meant they buy a diesel version of a tt just so they can say they drive a tt...

edit:anyway you probably knew what he meant, but sarcasm etc can be hard to tell over a keyboard

I was always surprised they didn't put a diesel in the Mk1 TT. The 1.9 TDi PD 150 would have gone in fairly easy. The BMW 320Cd existed so would have a market.

Audi's diesel recent commitment would mean, not putting a TDi in TT would have missed a trick TBH...

To all intense purposes a tt is marketed as a sporty car. What is sporty about a diesel version? but when asked what you drive and you reply an audi TT the person asking would assume you bought it because its nice looking and your into driving or performance of some sort. When infact as a diesesal version you obviously only care about the looks of it. You are buying it/ using it purly for saying hey iv got a sports car. But its not. From audi's point of view its a bloody genius product.

As much as a mx5 on here takes stick for being a hairdressers or girls car because alot of girls or gaydressers buy it purely for posing in it actually is a sports car its just they never use for that purpose.

narrow minded, ignorant and judgemental yes i am.

Quite impressed that you both know what TT owners say when asked about their cars. That must have been quite a survey you did. You know, when people asked me what I drove, I used to say MR2, or A4, sometimes I'd say an Amigo. Seldom do the engine specs come into it, because the majority of people couldn;t care less. Should I say

"I drive a 1998 Isuzu amigo 2.2 4cyl, with 3 1/2 inch lift, and diff drop",
or,
"MR2 Turbo, with Blitz EBC, water injection, HKS suspension, and an air freshener"?

For the majority of people, TT is enough. No other info need be put forth, because the majority couldn't give a toss.

Pretty much. A FWD-biased, AWD, tractor-engined 4 cylinder, pose-mobile with an automatic gearbox...when we all want a RWD, V8 petrol, Manual, old green TVR!
