My 1.4 tdi (same engine) needs 4 miles in cold weather just to regsiter on the Gauge! & the stat is fine, 8 miles the oil temp might be up to 40 deg possibly. This is normal as they hardly use any fuel, enough to generate heat anyway. That's why these engines run specific oil as they rarely run up to temp. There is a different thicker oil specified if you do long motorway type journeys.

That's interesting - thanks. I know the oil was expensive, I nearly fell over when he showed me the receipt from the motor factor when I did his oil change a few months back.

Its just not getting to warm up. My 1.4 diseasel takes 5/6 miles to get any heat into it.

A good 20-25 mile run a couple of times should clear it. Keep an eye on fluid levels too.
