Any Hummer H1 or Humvee owners here....
Discussion
I very nearly bought one on ebay a few years back, H1 ex-mil, i bid up to £13k on ebay and it sold for £14k.
Fuel consmption is, of course, an issue but if you're not doing big miles it makes sod-all difference in real terms.
Parts availability isn't too bad, although you may have to wait a wee while to get them.
I've had a few passenger rides in an H1, people will whinge about their size but they're not much wider or longer than some 3.5 tonne vans. Really not that unmanagable.

driven all three, H1 H2 and H3, wrote a little review of the H3 in the off road section.
The H2 was great, though as said before very big and destroys petrol.
edit: H3 review
Hadnt seen a review on here so would post my opinions,
had to rent something for the holidays as our z4 only has 2 seats and the old man needed the explorer to take kids to school etc, usually i get a fortuna or prada but decided to try the hummer this time, (we are looking for a replacement for the explorer so was good to try one of the possibles)
The model was a 3.5l, 4 speed auto, pushing 220hp and 225ft of torque. It was slightly ropey having covered 150k kms. First impressions it felt very solid, i was concerend about the visibility but sitting so low to the ground your eye level sits perfectly with the windows. The interior was pretty crap, plastic everywhere and the boggo cloth seats made my back ache after a few hours, however there was alot of room in both the front and back and the passengers didnt complain.
On the road it sits nicely at 130kph on cruise control, it lacks real grunt and the 4 speed is pretty gappy in auto. It feels very basic in corners with a lot of body roll, however the turning circle is very very good.
Off road is where i hoped it would give me something more, however again it felt underpowered, it has a live rear and indi front, with locking diffs but even in high locked on sand it felt crud. bit dissapointed.
Image. i was surprised that the hummer was pretty immune (over here at least) from the brand snobs, it wasnt cheap like a nissan or Kia, but didnt look out of place next to a range rover or VW.
price. At 12500 RO for a top spec H3 the price is unbeatable, a prada comes in at 22500, a Jeep at 16500 and the nissan at 14500.
Overall i think we might get one, (in manual) not because it was a great car to drive, not because it was great inside, but because it was very solid, trustworthy, and if someone hit it we would be fine, plus there is nothing else close to it at that price.

I heard they were all SORNed due to petrol prices :-)
There is a youngish farmer guy (about 25?) near me, drives an H2, black with 22" wheels. He only ever has around £20 petrol in it and he does about 5 miles a week in it - what a waste!I'm on my second H3. First was a 2006 H3 3.5 Auto. Whilst is had great presence on the road and fantastic off the road, it was gutless. You always approached roundabout with the intention to stop, rather than merge. It came with the big bars on the front, very handy for the two front impacts I had, not a scratch, and when reared by a Toyota Camry he needed a new bonnet, bumper, headlights and grill. I needed a polish.
Now I have a 2009 H3 Alpha, this has a 5.3 V8 on an autobox, it came as standard with 300bhp that has been chipped to 340bhp. It really does shift ! It is incredible off road, you don't even have to slow down from tarmac to sand.
Now that Hummer is no more I have no idea what to get next.......
