Get some day insurance or else drive it to the MOT on 3rd party insurance that is usually included for other cars once over 25. Hell trailer it to the MOT if necessary.
Can't day insure it - too old (unless you know of an insurer who offers this? If so, please let me know) - strike that, I found one.
Can't drive on 3rd party, the vehicle needs to be insured in someone else's name for that to activate.
Trailer - that's a possibility, its under consideration.

I'll go with the others. If it could get an MOT you'd have done it, ergo I would have zero confidence that it will pass without major work.
She came outside for the first time in years the other day, had a wash & a bunch of photos taken, and went back away again. The simple fact is, I have not attempted an MoT. I wish I could prove that to you, but short of giving out the log book reference number, I can't.

Also did the Ghia X not have the little rubber lip spoiler on the tailgate as standard??
I think it was a standard part of eeh X Pack, the car my Dad had certainly had one.

Er, I believe it was part of the Sports pack, not the X pack. The "X" didn't have strong enough boot lid springs to lift the rubber spoiler.

There is no evidence on this car of it ever having had one fitted (no drill holes).

Thread's quickly turning into the Glynis Barber appreciation society. Who's up for a few choice pics?

Nice work Donster smile I'd have posted a pic myself, but i have no idea how to post them. (if anyone would let me into this secret, it'd be appreciated)

There should be four links above the text box you're replying in. Save an image you find (remembering where you've saved it to, of course!), then select the link 'Upload an image', locate where you saved it and Bingo! All done.

Here's looking forward to more poses from the lovely Ms B. smile

Hi Ade,

You can insure it via www.tempcover.com

I have used these before for one of my capris when I collected it, I did a quick quote with my details (28, northants location) and it was a touch over £30 for a 4 door ghia x granny

The age of the car didnt seem to be a problem

Nice shed but I'm always a bit dubious when a vendor states he has too many other projects plus the lack of test and ticket. You would have to blow alot of cash to even get it back on the road (otherwise the vendor would have MOT'd it already) and probably worth more in parts.
The car has been parked at the back of a very full industrial unit for the past 3 years. It's only because I'm now having to move into smaller premises that I'm having to sell at all - that and I bought a ropey estate to work on. I already have 2 vehicles on insurance, I'm not sure I can afford a 3rd, not for any length of time at any rate. I'm not sure where you get the "would have to blow a lot of cash" from??? Some insurance so you can drive it to the MoT place, and £55 on the MoT, ought to be enough. Maybe a few quid to a mobile tuner first? Hell, if the insurance isn't too steep, I'll do it myself (watch this space, as they say).

I dont think the price is a million miles out, if the body / chassis is pretty much rust free.

If I were the seller I would put it through an MOT, at least then you would have a good diea as the buyer what needs doing, for the sake of £50 or whatever, it must make the sale easier ?
Ollie - I agree. The problem is getting the insurance sorted for a reasonable price; with the best will in the world, it's going to quadruple the price of the MoT....

Still, if that's what it's going to take to keep you buggers quiet..... wink
The very fact that the car has been sitting for 3 years is why I made the comment about the MOT. It will need a service, tune up to pass an emissions test, brakes may need work, suspension components/bushes may need replaced etc which obviously wont be cheap. Or you could be lucky and only need a service/tune to get it through. You mentioned the whole insurance thing and I completely agree you can buy daily insurance for about £15+ which will not break the bank and will allow you to at least put it through an MOT and give buyers piece of mind if it passes or needs little work.

That is a proper old school Ford.

I love the big, square, boxy shape.

They do have some presence about them, and had soem class back in the 80s.

Top SOTW.

My dad had one pretty much identical to this one - I remember it very fondly, albeit from the eyes of a 7 year old in the passenger seat. I vaguely remember it being the first car I drove too, steering in a friend's farmyard while sat on dad's knee laugh

Is that not without an MOT certificate, as opposed to without insurance?

Yes, a car without MOT or tax can be driven to a pre-booked MOT appointment as long as its insured and it can't be 3rd party insurance either, must be against the vehicle.

I've forwarded him this thread in case he fancies it smile

Dross!

3rd Party is the legal minimum required by law. Show me different!

Anyone who describes a car as 'she' in an advert is clearly a paisley sock wearing, leather elbow patched, St Bruno pipe smoking geek and Morgan wannabe owner.

This just screams money pit everywhere. How much to sort out all that's wrong? Diff, dipstick, electrical gremilins? No tax or MOT dented to buggery and he still wants a bucket of sand?

Trot on.
Ah, making stereotypes hey? Your profile says you live in Devon, yet you use sayings such as "bucket of sand" & "trot on", a wannabe cockney gangster, that's seen one too many Guy Ritchie movies wink
Being in Devon, we probably say 'trot on' more than a eel eating Laaandaaner. smile

Bucket of sand has been in my vocabulary since about 1988 when I used to sell meat from Cornwall to Smithfield traders.

Now, shut it you slaaaaag or you'll get a slap! hehe
