My boss, who was the old Engineering Director had one in 1986...it was a lovely "old man's car" in those days...the young Production Director had a BMW 325i! Nuff said? BTW, That old heap is not worth a grand...they will be lucky to get a monkey for it?

Yes, a car without MOT or tax can be driven to a pre-booked MOT appointment as long as its insured and it can't be 3rd party insurance either, must be against the vehicle.
Dross!

3rd Party is the legal minimum required by law. Show me different!
Think what he means is that it can not be 3rd party as in you are insured on another car where the policy allows you to drive different cars third party.... He means that actual car has to be insured... level of insurance is not important...

Memories!!! My Auntie used to have a Ghia estate when I was 17 in 1993, I used to come up with any excuse to borrow it. She always told me to take care of it as it was an old girl then . We used to cheer as the last warning light would come on as if we had got a 'full house' .
A mate of mine used to think he was a bit of a wide boy was cruising around in his fiat tipo with its knightrider dash .He didn't know about my aunties Granada. We chased him around for a bit and he drove to the police station, we pulled up next to him and he was in tears .
The Intimidation Power of the Granada ( When your 17 and driving a 1.6 tipo )

As for the shed of the week car , I agree it looks like it may prove expensive.

Many years ago in another life I sold the most beautiful light blue metallic 2.8i GhiaX Granada Estate.

It was cavernous!

I had two of these and loved them

2.8i S and a late 2.8i Ghia X

Perfect car for wafting about in.

Of the two, it was much more fun in the manual....although i did have a tendancy to try and hang the arse out a bit too often, the kerbs round my way were just the right height for knocking the tyre off the rim

Another top shed! My uncle had a 2.8 and I remember it being massivly wide.

For those of you with the Glynis Barber thing going on, you do realise that she appeared in a remake of the Wicked lady? The reason I mention this is that she isn't a natural blond IYSWIM wink

Had a 2.8 inj once, bought from the side of the road on the way to work, about 1989/1990 £375 had a bent bonnet,(catch had failed)was an auto,I needed a cheep car as I used to commute on a m/bike,picked up car drove to the nearest scrappy and bought another bonnet in the right colour fitted it in his yard, drove home, car went like the wind, all ok for a few months then g-box started to make strange grinding noises, mentioned it to the local motor factor he said his brother would look at it,he was the auto box guru in the ford dealers that looked after thames valley police cars .gearbox re-built guy said second time he'd done this car as it was ex police un marked Q car ! No wonder it went so well !
£1000 for this one !!
If you do it all as it should be done you will probably add a nought to the cost !
£10,000 for a run of the mill granny !!!

Sorry, there seems to be some confusion here. Yes of course you can take 3rd party insurance on any vehicle as a minimum. What I was actually meaning is you can drive any other car if you are fully comp under your own insured car policy on a 3rd party basis only but the vehicle in question MUST have a valid insurance policy on it otherwise its illegal. Hope that's cleared that up now!!!

Ah! The 2.8i S, the first car I drove with the needle pointing at 3 digits on the speedo! It was my father's company car, an S-reg if I remember correctly. I used to find any lame excuse to borrow it (insurance was probably questionable but hey-ho different times back then) and give it a good thrash down the then newly opened and very quiet M27. Still remember coming down the hill from Windhover to the Hamble Bridge at an unmentionable speed. Great car in its day but I wouldn't touch one now at any price.

Fond memories! ( of Makepeace, who is still with Dempsey in real life, luck bloke) and the 2.8 Ghia X, one of dad's mates had an eatate one, also used for transporting kids to the swimming pool run. Being an estate it had room for 4 extra passengers in the boot.
It was also the first automatic I ever drove, a few days after passing my test, yes I did depress the "clutch" pedal

An honest description no doubt but all it says to me is "I bought a car, have carried out no maintenance and when things stopped working, I've done nothing about it!"

Great car though.
I totally agree with your comment. It would take lots of time or money to make it roadworthy and then the bits inside and outside. The car's been neglected from the beginning probably and then put a side to grow some interest... and thousand pounds for that!!! The seller must be having a laugh...

A nice one is £1000-£1500 so the extra zero on the price must be a typo. Had a 2.8 ghia in 1988 and thought it was a great car. Really enjoyed it.
