As a child, I worked in the local country garage filling up cars for customers. It was that kind of place. Anyway, petrol was around 50p a litre. A typical customer asked for either £6 or £12 (not £5 or £10) - to get the tokens, you see.

At the time I think petrol was about 35p per litre.
I remember that filling up my Mini 1000 cost about a fiver.
If it cost a fiver that would make the tank less than 3 gallons which doesn't sound right.

I can't remember what the price was initially, but I remember the outrage when it hit £2 per GALLON! (Roughly 44p a litre). That was about 1986.

It costs me £64 to fill the Chimaera up this morning. It's not a particularly big tank and it wasn't even completely empty.

I'd used pretty much all of it by lunch time.

Around 46p per litre in 1998. I remember the price rising to 50p and thinking it was expensive.

I can't remember the price of a gallon but i can remember putting 16 1/2 pence worth of petrol in my FS1E in 1981 to get me to work for the rest of the week.

Can also remember it costing me around 75p a week to run an honda C70 in 1985.

It was about 35p a gallon (1973) but the price rocketed because of the Middle East Oil Crisis

It was so cheap when I first started filling up I didn't even take notice, my first set of wheels was a little Honda MT-5 when I was 16. Used to cost me about £2.20 to fill it up and that would last about 3 weeks.

Can't remember what it cost per gallon, but it was a shade over £7 to fill my Mini's tank to the brim. Seems such a long time ago now... ;o)

Think it was something like 80-85ppl in 2005 when I passed.

I'd be interested to see how the current fuel prices rates to historic prices adjusted for inflation and median salary.

When I was a kid I remember my friend's dad saying in shocked tones that he'd seen petrol at 72p per gallon on the motorway services. I think it was around 58p ordinarily (per gallon, mind, not litre!) When I started driving I recall paying £1.80-something per gallon.
