I'd happily give you information about a car I'd previously owned. smile

I'd also happily tell you to go back to the dealer requesting a refund under SOGA if you'd bought a couple of my P/Xes spin

I've never been contacted but I would love to know how any of my cars are getting on. I was tempted to find out some history on my MINI cooper S but it was a bit of a pup and I didn't have it very long so I thought ignorance was bliss.
it might a little hard for u to do that.

Interesting topic this, I've bought a car and found an RAC temporary membership certificate with all the previous owners details, as the car is an accident salvage it would be interesting to know what happened to it!

If I was a bad person I could make him pay for the car too because the form has the following information:
Full Name
Address
Telephone Number
D.O.B.
Bank Account Number
Bank Sort Code
Signature

Wouldn't bother writing to a previous owner myself, but if somebody wrote to me regarding one of my old cars I wouldn't have a problem with it. I'd have all good intentions of giving them any info they wanted, but would probably end up forgetting.

Send off DVLA form V888 (PDF), enclose £5. They send copies of the car's old V5s. My car had seven previous owners, so it was a pretty fat envelope.

Here's the form:

Thanks, you beat me to it with the answer.
What did you guys write in answer to:

Q4 What information do you want and why?
-and-
Q5 How are you going to use the information?

Q5 How are you going to use the information?

Answer Not going to use it just add it to the cars history folder.

Thanks. Will give this a try.

As is often the case with these things, they just want to see the 'right' answer to these kind of questions, (and just wondered what has worked in the past).

No worries, it was a free service a few years ago. I think the DVLA cost is £5.00 now?.

it works and its worth a try

i've done this and got back in return things like spare key, or missing parts of the history.
even folders full of stuff they just didnt think to hand to the dealer when trading in (bills for cambelt, clutch etc stuff you wouldnt know about without those bills).

Yeah I've done it.

I bought a CAT-D car once cheap and wrote to the previous owner.

He sent back a tonne of stuff - pictures of the damage, bodyshop quotes for the repair (£££ for paint and panels).

This made it easier to sell on when the time came as it proved it really was just a panels and paint write off.
