Ford Focus C-Max

Had that engine in my focus, its suprisingly brisk for 113bhp and I had good returns from a remap. I ragged that thing about for 20k miles over 2 years and it never missed a beat and returned good mpg even with my foot flat to the floor most of the time.
Which remap did you get, and what did it give you?I was initially going to buy the Focus but the more i think about it the more i think it could be a dud.
The guy who's selling it has partial service history, although he said it's serviced before every MOT, he does'nt have any of the service detail, only the MOT's.
I asked him if he had any receipts / payment receipts from the garage to back this up & he did'nt.
Hence why i think it could be a bit too good to be true, nearly a grand cheaper than the next nearest equivalent, partial service history, if i had a bit of spare cash i'd take a punt but i can't afford it if it goes Pete Tong!

I bought one to replace a Mondeo - it's been spot on really. Mine's the 2.0 Zetec TDCI, tried the 1.8 and it seemed overly clanky (I've driven diesels for a while, and ford diesels at that) and the 2.0 seemed to have a bit more go to it. It'll never set the land speed record but gets around fine.
There's a fair bit of space in them, there's not massive amounts of advisories for things to go wrong, but they do chew front tyres. I think that could be said of any FWD heavy diesel though - it's shorter, fatter and heavier than a Mondeo, and it doesnt do anywhere near it's advertised MPG

How about one of these unloved Seats? A bit cheaper than the equivalent Fords and possibly a bit better than the VX or Renault equivalent.

Ah i was looking at the 1.8 Zetec petrol.
That's what we have (wanted a 1.8D on a facelifted Titanium - just weren't any about!). Does about 350-400 miles from a tank (32MPG ish, assume low 30s), has enough power to feel like it's not going to leave you stranded but it's never going to set the world alight either. Quiet and smooth in the Cmax, it feels like it has more sound deadening in it than a Focus (that may or may not be true though, just how it feels behind the wheel!)Interestingly, my 2.0T with 100BHP more in the A4 does more MPG and in retrospect I perhaps wish we'd looked longer to get the diesel as it will do into the 40s (still not great these days, but better than we get now).

Great value for money, especially when you consider its a Golf MK5 under the skin. They don't look bad either.
