Ever heard of using capitol letters at the beginning of your sentences?

I can guarantee that most people will skip straight past your post because of your inability to punctuate and format well. Seriously don’t bother posting unless it’s going to be in something resembling English next time.
Jesus wept. Seriously? Am i sitting GCSE English or posting on some website about cars? Again, dont blame the monkey when the organ grinders a retard. so i get a load of hassle from university for commenting a tutors inability to spell 2 letter words, something that DOES MATTER. and get picked up on fking punctuation on some fking website i mean really have you NOTHING better to do then go round policing spelling and grammar. its Pistonheads speed matters, not Pistonheads spelling matters. and whlist were on Punctuation does the article really need a hyphen between 'African' and 'Built' African-built or African built. either way it is clear it was built in Africa not really needing a compound modifier. do you work on the trains by any chance... jobsworth springs to mind
You have missed the point. You decide; either make your post easy for others to understand and respond to, or don't (because spelling and punctuation obviously don't matter on an internet forum about cars).

PS 'Organ grinder's a retard'
The point is its only dullards like yourself on the internet, mainly on here and youtube, who actually care. when a UNIVERSITY doesnt bother with proper spelling and grammar in its corrospondants or lectures (spelling and grammar become pronunciation and enunciation) but some car website does how petty is that. So a HE body doesnt consider correct spelling or grammar to be neccercery for its seminars, lectures and correspondants yet some jobsworth with no life considers it to THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to demonstrate whilst talking bks about cars. i just wonder what happens when you go to the MOT centre and are addressed as mate, followed by 'innit'. or am i right in thinking you wouldnt say fk all to a spanner weilding mechanic whos stood infront of you but feel the need to crusade the internet seeking out bad grammar. What is the warhammer server down today?
The internet is such a great place, it makes people that don't know each other, fall out of things that don't matter. NOBODY WINS!!!!! Anyway.....in other news, the Dacia Sandero....

Maybe it's just a st university? Most of the ones that I've dealt with have placed a fairly strong emphasis on spelling and grammar. I think the point is that if people can't be bothered to put some effort into what they type then why should anybody take it seriously?
Hey, you up there....can you hear me? If so, can your re-write that last paragraph and add the necessary punctuation before anyone else notices?

Thank you, kind sir... wink

I like it. I see this as a good solid version of something you dont see much of these days. Why not appreciate it for what it is rather than this totaly pointless vitriol which has been spouted by some on here!

It is amazing how many comments you see each week with a 1K SOTW car. Face it, for that kind of money all you want is something to get you around for at least a few months ... or if you are lucky, a year or two. This one is as good as any and I would bet it would cost a lot less to operate and be more reliable than an old barge.

Would I buy it? Nah ... waiting for next week's SOTW. smile
Try the Lexus LS400 - it's been SOTW twice... I bought one 3 years ago for Shed money, its had oil, 2 springs and a set of tyres, and has transported me around 40,000 miles. Totally reliable, bulletproof, and even if it explodes tomorrow I've so had my £1000 worth out of it. Except it won't explode, because it's a Lexus.

I can't comment on this week's Shed, 'cos I'm still biased about last week's.... biggrin
I would agree. Lexus is the exception to the "old barge" comment.

The Toyota Tazz, (same build recipe as Citi Golf but with MkI Corolla) generally gets the 'sensible' nod.
Oh, that's a bit disappointing. When you said Mk1 I was struggling to picture a modernised version of a car from the mid-60s but went with it anyway.

A quick google tells me you meant the E90 (6th gen Corolla) from the mid-80s. Still interesting though and I didn't know it existed until now. Cheers. smile

So to summarise your arguments:

1. Mk4 Escort and Renault 19 are better than a Mk2 Golf because they have bigger numbers.

2. Your mate bought a cheap 16 year old car and it was rubbish. It was a Volkswagen. Therefore all Volkswagens are rubbish.

On one point I agree with you 100%. Your spelling, grammar and punctuation aren't the big issue here.

It was quite a surprise to see this car on SOTW.

Especially as the car is being advertised still in Hampshire.

Back in the early 2000's my brother's Clio was written off and whilst looking for a cheap run around I saw this car (99% sure it's this exact one - it was in a garage in Portswood, white citigolf 5dr and N plate) We went to see it and I was like it's an immaculate condition Mk1 Golf (albeit 5dr) for under £2000. He was not so enamoured and in the end went an bought a 306 1.4 petrol. At the time I wish I had bought it, nearly 10 years motoring and it's still worth a fair chunk of the price then and would have been easy to maintain and cheap to run.

Anyway most of my blabbering is due to the surprise of seeing a car I viewed nearly 10 years ago, for sale locally and still in apparently good condition.

If this was a two door then...well...add a few genuine GTI bits and you've got a rather nice looking run around.

Now if only VW SA still made the Corrado.... *dribble*

It doesn't surprise me that it's in good condition. The build quality of those SA built Citi Golfs was very high.

This stemmed from the fact that VWSA had a very poor reputation for build quality back in the late 70's / early 80's with the first Golfs and the Passats.

They would rust at the sight of water.

So VWSA embarked on a huge program to improve their image - starting by heavily rustproofing the cars, and offering excellent anti corrosion warranties.

In some of their advertising, they stated that the underside had xx KG of underseal etc. (I forget how much - buti t was a lot..).

And by the time I left SA in the mid 90's, it was certainly becoming rare to see a rusty VW product, even on the coast.

Just by reading the first few posts, its a bit harsh and would have to agree, what did this poor car do to deserve such an insulting, it wasnt that bad. Only thing I could say that was boring about this is he dashboard, which would make it look dated fast.

That was in reply to matey claiming vw's had more tourque and suggesting they were more powerful than british/french rivals. It was also to demonstrate the daft insurance groupings of VAG products compared to similar sized cars of the time. Insurance group 7 for a 55bhp 1.3 isnt justifiable by the manufacturer's name alone, maybe if it was a Porsche Golf. A neighbour also had a similar golf to my mates 1st car, and so did my nan, both were wheezing slow heavy hateful steers but they seemed happy not being able to keep up with the flow of traffic for the sake of a textured 'leather effect' plastic dashboard.... luckily for you i didnt even bother talking about Rover as those honda powered 200's had serious poke for such modest capacity.

Its not hard to take a quote out of context... Of course the VAG crowd dont respond well to criticism, maybe because every VAG tuning style is done better on other cars... (dub/rat/euro) all IMHO of course.

and on your number 2. £950 aint cheap, not by any measure, £300 for a 98 plate laguna estate on 80k is cheap. i happen to have a friend who does rather well from buying £50 wrecks and flogging em off for a bag of sand... VWs are always garunteed to make him the most money because most people only ever see the badge.

WHY!? I can't see why people are dicking on this car. I'm not exactly a huge fan of front wheel drive hatchbacks (haven driven a fair spread from humble nineties 'first car's to noughties £25k pseudo-status-symbols, via 80's budget family luggers) yet this seems like a perfect compromise. If you're willing to forgo great driving pleasure and buy a diluted, sensible, lardy hatch with the engine the wrong way around (aka a modern Golf of - vomit - a Focus), why not retain the youthful benefits of a modernised re-incarnation of a true classic driving machine!? Mk1 Golfs may not be pant-sttingly exhilarating to drive on the whole, but you could do a lot worse than a good condition, uncommon modernised example such as this.

Looks better than the style-less offspring of the far-too-numerous gormless, spotty tts you see glueing bits of non-functional fibreglass tat to the lower lip of their Mk2s' front bumpers.

Christ, so people actually think UWE's a real University now!?...

I'm not going to comment on your spelling or grammar here (even though than it's dodgier than the pope), but in defence of people who do comment here on such issues - it is important. Not to be a nazi about it, but it has a huge bearing on whether you can be understood. A lot of posts on online forums are literally unreadable and I think it's very arrogant to assume that people understand the drivel that seeps out of your barely literate fingertips, when, in fact, we can't.

p.s. did you really mean 'corrospondants' ('correspondents', FYI) or 'correspondence'?

I like them.

I had an 84 mars red convertible (15"BBS, classic bumpers with an Oettinger 2.0 16v). What an awesome and pretty car. loved every second driving it. Got nicked as every GTI did eventually.

I've a VX220 Turbo now so I must like the square.
