So, say a car costs the dealer £12,000. Someone offers them £12,200. Should they take it if they know they can get another one anyway?
No. After valeting costs, collectiopn costs, VAT etc there is no profit. Businesses cannot survive on margins of 0.016 % !

Oh i know all that. I was just curious to see if the poster could see the bigger picture as to what running a car sales business actually involved.

Now you've ruined it!! wink

Most dealers will charge you their transaction fee if you use a credit card - and rightly so.
Why rightly so?
It's a cost of doing business, why should the customer pay for it? I don't get charged extra for using a credit card in Tesco.

So to clarify, is it money in the bank that you are now going to use to buy 2 brand new citroens, or have you already arranged some finance of your own to fund the purchases?

Again, floor limits on the amount acceptable by credit card because of the charges (prticularly Amex, which we will not accept, full stop).

Also, I think that you will find that you are not supposed to pass on card charges to the customer. I seem to remember being caught out by this a few years ago, although things may have changed.

If we didnt charge for credit cards, other non credit card paying customers would be subsidising the customers that did .

Why would they benefit by being paid in cash?

It would carry as much weight as asking for a discount for paying on a Friday.
Depends what date that friday falls on doesn't it.

I've known deals go through because it happens to be at the end of the month/qtr/week, whatever.

You could take them on finance with discount then settle the balance within 14 days interest free........ wink

Dealers will offer more incentives to take finance because they get commission from it - I bought my Picanto on finance and saved another £500 off the already discounted price - the dealer got this £500 back plus 10% of the balance financed (£4450) so they gained £445 out of it

(BTW, consider a Picanto instead of a C1 - £6050 OTR from Arnold Clark at the moment and the better car, IMHO)

Just to set the record str8 on a few points. Before walking into the dealer on saturday i was fully aware that the dealer makes Extra money from finance deals. But at 10% interest u would have to be a fool to go that route if u have cash eh ? My point was that if said dealer had looked after this customer who would of brought TWO cars (ds3 was at full mrrp by the way )by knocking off say £200 ish per car. That dealer would of sold TWO cars, that dealer would of had TWO cars back for regular services for a good 5 years ! But thats not going to happen now .And sorry i just don`t buy all this ...poor poor main dealer cr*p that do it for love .

Thanks
Bman

How are they to know they'll have 2 cars back for regular services for 5 years and that you won't use an independent garage for it's first service?

No probs, happy with mine so far (~500 miles in)

If they give you any censored about not being able to sell you it for that price drop me an email and I'll give you the details of the sales manager at the dealership I bought from who changed the screen price on his cars after I pointed out that the website had them advertised at that price.

Depends on the dealer I guess wink

Big outfits like Arnold Clark don't give a fcensoredk - they're all about moving metal. Smaller dealers might care more but then you pay more for the cars in the first place (I had two absolutely shocking finance quotes for a Picanto from two smaller dealers when compared to AC's deal)

OP - try http://citroensupermarket.com/newcitroen, they offer pretty hefty discounts, even a bit off DS3s! Mega offers only until the end of March - or the next quarter! wink
