I think it (G40) sound the perfect car for me, I had a good crawl over it at Goodwood FOS last year. For me it needs to be the same price for the base, basic model on the road as the cheapest Elise. The Elise is now quite a polished product and base is £26K. When I was at Goodwood I talked to the designer, sorry forgot name paperbag he said they were aiming squarely at the Elise, so if its £10K more than the Elise its missed its target in my opinion as a new Elise for £10K less is more likely to get my money.
Base price for an Elise is now £29,230 for the 134bhp 1.6 - if with the 2.0 Duratec this can be lighter and more powerful, mid 30's might not be unreasonable.

elise is a track focused car
G40 is a race car for the road.. Much higher spec when u look at the fact it has full cage, 6 speed sequential.. etc

so if it comes in at elise price i think it wil do well

Exactly.

Why don't people READ the original article and the owner of the company's comments?

Then maybe less rubbish and snide remarks would have been written in this thread.

Good luck to Ginetta ! thumbup

They look good but I just hope their build quality has improved somewhat since my '92 G33 rolleyes
Strange comment to make.

After all in the space of 20 years why would they have changed their build quality.

I Saw these Cars in the flesh & they do look fantastic. Really hope the G40 & F400 do sell.

We should be championing a British Company doing this, not trying to put them down at every opportunity. Why don't people try and find the reasons they may succeed instead of trying to find reason they may not.

Because it's much easier to be a grumpy bugger on the internet than positive - anyone being positive tends to get drowned out in the mass of negativity. For an enthusiasts site PH is extremely conservative, so anything new or different (that isn't from BMW rolleyes) is treated with suspicion.

I think at least a few people are more interested in how they drive.

Right I am pretty confused, according to this thread

Hi
The car currently produces 180 bhp standard and meets all euro 5 emissions. The duratec 2.0 can be tuned to 250 bhp easily at NO weight penalty. Ginetta now has it's own engine department and dyno's at the factory. The chassis is capable of handling 300 bhp. The car weighs 790 kg. Maybe a standard 180 bhp car with options is the way forward? This is a very raw track focused car. I keep saying this, but I love driving it - even with 180 bhp it just makes you smile.
So is it 150 or 180?

225bhp/tonne then?

That's pretty good.

I like that car a lot.

That's going to leave a 1.6 Elise for dead.

How many other new cars for around £35k offer 225hp/ton?

Caterham are the obvious ones that offer more for your money but with the obvious compromises on practicality and weatherproofness (although I personally don't find either of those a problem, I understand some do).

It will also give the 111R (2ZZ 190bhp) a decent run for its money.

It’s pocket pleasing too, at £27,500 / €34,450* / CHF48,900, the Elise Club Racer marks the new entry level sports car from Lotus.
If the G40 ends up at £37K like has been mentioned several times in this thread it'll be £10K more than a base Elise. You could buy the base Elise and drop it off at a Link-up dealer and have it Honda'd for basically the same money.

Not everybody wants to mess around with modifing cars. Perception of reduced reliability etc.

I could go out today and buy a K series S2 for 10K, spend a further 15K on a honda SC/CC set up and fly past any 40k+ exige for the grand price of 25K!

Hoorah to that! Anybody else fed up with all the super agressive, macho styling with strakes and creases at every turn? I hope to see a move to more gentle curves and elegant lines in the future. The market is competely devoid of it at the mo IMHO. Lets hope Ginetta lead the way, they certainly have the styling heratige to make it a justifiable design statement.

Earlier on chap was asking about the sort of styling that woud improve ginetta to the next level. Since then I've been trying to think of an example to give.

If there is a car out there that is similar in terms of size and niche that I would say has that sparkle that one would expect of a drop dead gorgeous contemporary design I give you the new alfa C4.

Don't know what its engine is, but before you even turn the key you could spend most of the day just drooling over it.
