for the record no cords, nylon threads or anything exposed, but there is a reasonable amount of rubber cut back...
Meh. I'd be happy with that, so long as I could pinpoint the time the damage occurred. If it was a slow park/slide into a curb as you say, there's not much damamge it can do to the tyre from that angle without you seeing it. If the car had been driven througha deep pothole at 60 and that was the visible result, I'd change the tyre because there could be internal damage to the structute of it. Get your tracking checked though!Strangely I've had a tyre let go on two cars. Both front wheel. The one on the car with power steering was a bit of a non event, and certainly wouldn't have caused an accident, the car simply wobbled at the front till I pulled to the side of the road and noticed the tyre had come off the rim.
The second was on a non assisted Kit car at 80mph and was a memoral event. Although neither crashed the non assisted car left me sweating with some very sore wrists the day after.
The damage to your tyre wouldn't lose me a moments sleep. In the country, or should I call it pothole land) almost every car has that sort of damage to rim and tyre.

Use Araldite, much safer
If I'm honest super glue was the first thought that crossed my mind, just to make it less obvious Use Araldite, much safer

Who else guessed it was a 'Cyclone' alloy from a 306 from just looking at the picture?

Nothing to worry about IMO.
I'm with Stu - not a big deal - whack it in for the MoT and if it passes it'll be fine. Tyres are WAY tougher than you could imagine - I cut up one with a chainsaw (fk you council, I ain't paying to dispose of them - it can go in the wheelie bit by bit) and it was a helluva job...a lot tougher than I had imagined.Kwik Fit wouldn't even ring our lease company to ask them to replace a tyre with a split much like that, if not a bit bigger. They reckoned it was just the rubber outer facing of the sidewall that was split and a long way from being a structural issue. If I'd been paying I'd have replaced it without even asking but they were adamant.
Jesus Christ will every one lighten up.
There is nothing wrong with that tyre. Its cosmetic damage.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT TYRE.
Ignore all the prats who change their tyres if they get wet 'just in case'. Tyres are designed to take small knocks like that, and its only a problem if the steel bracing is exposed or if there is a bulge.
Thanks to a fiance with horrific spatial awareness I'm driving on 3 tyres with more damage than that, but since there are no bulges and no bracing exposed, they are fine. And since the most recent damage is atleast 5000 miles old, I'm not concerned. Especially since the tyres did 150mph on the autobahn last summer on the way to Hockenheim.
