Typical 'the car is abroad - I will pay shipping etc' scam but with an Autotrader mini-site ?!?

Bit weird isn't it? There is a dealers lot there, but the website is clearly a scam. It doesn't strike me as the type of trader that would bother with a website. The dealer has a landline number whereas the website only has mobiles.
Never seen a fake site before!
EDIT - Landline on the website too.

They tried a Phishing attack on some of the dealers on PH recently (which we stomped on very quickly) so I think it's safe to assume they've been trying the same thing elsewhere. Looks like Carrington might be one of the unlucky ones who fell for it.how does the scam work as they seem legit..

I've always thought that Autotrader should have a 'report' button a bit like PH, so that you could draw things like this to their attention.
The other thing it could be used for is to get muppets who advertise with a fake price as the headline figure, only to put the real one in the body of text. And whilst I'm at it, those who put mileage in without the ,000 so as to not get omitted from lower mileage searches... ban the lot of them and keep their advertising money.

Doing a google search the company seem legit, the landline number on the website is also the same number listed on other various sites, the bit of a giveaway is when you click on the picture it says "out of office, please email...."

The pictures of the Mito are from The Car People. Just noticed its on there for £2,450 for a 2009/58 reg Mito, found the same Mito on The Car People for £10,999.

Can't see anything wrong with that website apart from the prices are somewhat keen, I'm assuming the prices are the deposit required, with the rest going on finance.
The normal scam is that you have to send a (several thousand pound) deposit before you can see the car. Unfortunately the car doesn't exist and the people who you sent the money to are not who you thought they are and disappear with your cash, never to be heard from again.fwaggie said:

...And the fact that every photo has an embedded friendly alternative Gmail contact address, and that the photos have clearly been copied from other dealer web sites. If I was going to hack a site and phish for money - I'd at least use matching dealer photo's and make my cars onle a few thousand less than asking price
