eBay: "showing 16000 miles not sure if it genuine or not "

Ok the guy's being a bit cheeky claiming that the mileage may or may not be 16k, but there's nothing wrong with buying a scruffy but mechanically sound car, doing some repairs on it then selling on for a profit.
It's something i'd like to do myself if I had the time and space.
In this case it's known as fraud by false representation, and he can do some jail time. It's something i'd like to do myself if I had the time and space.

Funny how you guys get so worked up about it but yet nobody decided to report this to ebay? Why?
Because e-bay are ste and will do naff all. Perhaps someone should post a question on the ad with a link to the earlier ad asking if this is the same car (obviously is) and why there is a 100k miles difference.over_the_hill said:

Actually eBay DO deal with reports I've had to report things in the past where people are ripping off our products. Dealt with quickly.I sent him a message, wonder what reply I'll get and if it will be published?
"Hi!
I was wondering would you accept a little over £425 for this car? I think it's about right to cover the car, Hayes repair manuel and body filler. I'm not sure how much the paint cost, so I have not included this in the price.
P.S. As you are unsure about the milage I can confirm the car has 116 000 miles, not 16 000. It should be quite easy to know this when you bought it a month ago, but I understand these things can be hard to remember, "

I've reported it, I just haven't broadcast it.Either way that will do nothing, at the very worst he'll get the advert taken down, wow big tickle, he'll just put it in the local paper.

Give over, it's a crappy old Ka. Why get so indignant about it? It's not like you've just spotted a clocked 2 year old BMW 330d with a £10k price tag and smelt a rat.
It's a £400 12 year old Ford Ka.
Exactly it's a £400 Ka, so why try and deceive anyone? It's a £400 12 year old Ford Ka.

Not condoning it, I just think it's an over reaction for a £400 car.
At what price range is it not an over reaction in your opinion?£400 quid might not be a lot to you, but it is to some people.
Some people can only afford bangers.
I guess we're all different but I go on things by principal, whether someone trys de-frauding for a small amount of money or a large amount of money, the intent is still the same.

You are right though, the seller is not telling everyone the truth, but he's probably used sufficient terms to be this side of the law. He's read the mileometer, and he's admitted it might not be genuine.
Caveat emptor.

I think the documentary evidence that he bought it at 116k and is selling at 16k may blow your theory out of the water.
Course he knows he's not telling the truth. But read what he wrote: "showing 16,000 not sure if it genuine or not".
He hasn't told you the mileage, he has merely told you what it is showing on the clock.
