Personally i think the A5 & the A7 are the best looking large coupe & hatchbacks that any German car maker has to offer right now. But then, i don't hate the Porsche Panamera paperbag As for small coupe, the 1 Series BMW looks the part.

Wow Audi found another niche in the car market that needs a knew car, i used to be a huge audi fan, they were understated, fast and a fabulous places to be. I loved my Audi S3 but now they are going to far i wish car manufacturers would go back to making three or four different models which were individual. Now everyone has to have the super mini, super mini sports, super mini 4x4, hatchbacks, coupes, SUV's all to different match their contemporaries, with an infinite number of engines and gearboxes.

Due to this cess pool of design we have monstrosities like the Audi Q5, Mini Countryman and my personal award for most disgusting pointless piece of school mum driving cr*p the BMW X1
I see your point. But remember, this is Pistonheads, we're all enthusiasts that are mad about cars, everyone is right & nobody is wrong here.

So for the majority of us, this will seem like another bland edition to the range. We need to keep in mind that the majority of car buyers are not enthusiasts, & buy cars based on their image or even status. They probably see it as a part of their lifestyle.

No doubt we'll all continue to moan about most things. Myself included obviously, but face it, the minute someone builds the perfect car, we're all fked, as we'll have nothing to bicker about.

Next week, i'll be on Mastermind......specialist subject, Stating the fking obvious.

That is all.

Stop being so glum you lot!
Don't BMW and Mercedes make "too many" models then? Actually I don't think there's such thing as too many models. Sure, there's only a handful of cars from each manufacturer that interest me, but the same can be said for any brand. If they can sell the cars and turn a profit then I say fair play.
Besides, you should be glad that in this day and age a car company can say "fk it, let's make a stnormous coupe and stick the biggest engine we have in it and see if it sells". The people that are going to buy these don't give a bag of piss if it depreciates of not.
I thought this was a car website, it's turning into a complaining website.

Wild guess, but

And the point of the MB CL is?
Drive one, you'll see. If just you and a n other, or just you like to waft around in great comfort and a nice environment then there is very little to touch it.

I agree, having driven one once (never owned one), the CL as a second hand buy is one hell of a car.

I have been a fan of Audi for ten plus years. The current range of cars is very uninspiring and even the Audi magazine had an article in which an artist refered to the current line up as "Russian dolls". They all look exactly the same but are in different sizes.

I'm loosing the urge to stay an Audi dedicated fanboy.
Why would you want to be an Audi fanboy in the first place? With the odd exception, they're tedious cars for tedious people.

The first half of the comment is sensible. The second half is ridiculous. They are all competent. Some are very good. Some are dull. The reliance on front wheel drive platforms makes them also-rans to BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes as far as I am concerned, but your comment goes too far.

I agree, no offence intended to anyone, but, Mr Zod talks sense. Each to their own etc.., Some close friends of mine are not really "car people", that own "tedious" Audi cars, are some of the smartest, & most witty people i know. If they are happy with their purchase, then so be it. I wont ever pick my good friends on the car they own. Good night, no offence intended.

(yeah, i've had a couple tonight, so excuse my spelling etc...) Peace to all car lovers smile

Just because you can't afford one, or don't like them, doesn't mean other people can't/don't.
You are right, I can't afford one and maybe that makes me blind to their appeal. I worked at R-R for a number of years and my initial feeling towards the Phantom was similar as it is towards the CL/A9, but over time and getting the opportunity to drive the Phantom on numerous occasions, including blasts across Europe, I did start to convince myself that everyone needed a car like this and if I had a couple of million pounds lying around I would be at the front of the queue to buy one. I don't know when I would use it, but that didn't matter. I have since moved on from R-R but I still have regular exposure to cars like the CL and I still don't see the point to them. For some reason I really like the old SEC but the CLs have just been plain ugly, have no style, too big and don't offer any additional benefit over the sedan versions on which they are based. Considering that their sales volumes are very low and their depreciation curves are incredibly steep, I assume I'm not a lone in thinking this.

I think the point might be that some people might like it and want to buy it! What is wrong with choice or would you rather go back to "any colour as long as its black".

A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9 now.

We are missing the A2, now that was a clever Audi and so futuristic.
I guess we should all be happy they used increments of 2 when they start naming the new ranges (A4, A6, A8), instead of increments of 5 hehe

So sales numbers and depreciation curves determine whether a car is any good/should exist?
God, and I love a Phaeton. frown BTW, how are the sales numbers and resale values of a Phantom?

If sales numbers and resale values are all that matters, we should all be driving 3-series and focus'.

Prefer to be in the position where I can have it as a first hand buy personally. Still, how the other half live and all that.

Despite their array of useless over-marketed cars, Audi still not make a RWD car, how amusing. Although they might be allowed an Audi version of the forthcoming VW/Porsche Bluesport roadster. Or maybe not as it would contradict their outdated Quattro marketing...

Only a small one. Not quite the same as making an S Class/7 Series class car with fwd. Audi have to get out of that rut.

But when your marketing platform has been all about RWD, and I believe BMW even once said their cars would always be RWD. But the facts gave changed, and so they changed their mind. That's OK.

Any large/premium Audis that are FWD? Any other make? AFAIK most are 4wd.
