A couple of weeks ago, at around 9pm a police officer knocked on my door and asked to come in. She then explained that a gang had been arrested in the local area, and they had found a a whole list of cars to be stolen (Including my sisters Mini Cooper). They had all of her details, and recently I have seen some men walking past our house, looking at her car as they walked past.

The police officer said that they couldn't give any details out because of some legal reasons, but how am I supposed to protect her car from being stolen? We hide the keys no where near the front door but i'm still worried about the car being stolen.

Any ideas?!

Do you have a garage, access to one? Wheel locks, or a gate that can be locked. Can you put the mother in law inside the mini?

They apparently have other people in the group that are still out there, and if I block her car in, wouldn't they just target what ever car is in front? Or am I just being stupid?

Yes, from personal experience they will damage/move your other cars to get the one they want.

(depending on ho they are being stolen)

for the moment, remove a fuse to immobilise the car. no idea which one.

then fit a switch to the fuel pump.

M3 will be a hell of alot harder to steal than a Mini. And demand for parts is probably high. Try fitting a removable steering wheel boss.

Id suggest leaving the car somewhere else if at all possible, is there anyone who'd be willing to swap cars with her for a month or 2?

Don't most car thefts happen with the owners house being broken into and taking the keys? Worrying times.

We might have to keep her car at her friends house, but it causes so much aggravation! I swear car crime is getting worse and worse...

Get a Disclok

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...

I've had mine for over 10 years on a variety of cars inc mk1 Golf GTI cabrio and Subaru and now on my E39. At the end of day if someone wants your car they will take it, but a Disclok does make it that little bit harder.

I'd go with the moving the car to another property approach if possible - no matter what you do to the car or it's surroundings where it is to protect it, they'll just come after the owner........

All I could think of is that the OP is living with and doing his sister. And now Angelina Jolie is involved. Someone's going to be gone in 60 seconds, for sure.
