This is slightly scary! Bases insurance premiums on:
- Braking and Acceleration
- Cornering
- Speed
- Time of driving (e.g. day time, night time etc)
Saw this on the news a few weeks back. I thought it was a bit unfair unless they have different criteria for each model of car as I have to be pushing SWMBOs car very hard to make it half as quick as mine. Similarly for cornering. If I take a bend at 50mph in the off roader it may be pushing it a bit and quite silly, the impreza may well comfortably take it 10mph faster.

11% isn't nearly enough of a reduction to drive around with a bloody telltale box in the car!
I suspect that depends on what you're talking about 11% of. They aren't aiming it at us, they're aiming it at 17 year-olds with multi-thousand pound insurance premiums. Seems like a sensible thing to offer to me. It's not as if it's compulsory.

I can't see how it'd ever really work for new drivers but I honestly wouldn't mind something like that in my daily hack. I honestly believe my hack driving standard would be adored by a black box.
I think it's perfect for young drivers as it separates the sensible drivers from idiots. Teenagers pay high insurance because the insurer just doesn't know how high a risk they will be because of no info on them so they assume the worst. If you are a sensible driver you'll pay less. Conversely, idiots may drive more sensibly because they know they are being watched!kambites said:
