Its a Toyo.....taaaaa Snore.....

Sorry I fell asleep at the mere mention of the worlds dullest car manufacturer, I'm sure like everything they make, it will be a dull, tacky, passionless, wretch mobile.

Being a petrol head and buying Toyotas are mutually exclusive as Toyota slowly attempt to strangle all creativity from the car industry.

Much better imho wink

Seriously though, this is what cars were going to look like in the future when I imagined them when I was a kid. I absolutely love this car (well, I'm not a fan of the current trend for fairy lights all over a car but hey ho).
Sir, I salute you! Thought exactly the same thing when I saw the article.

I wish The Dark Knight would swoop down and kill the 'Halfordsveilsidespoilertoomanyvents' Brigade. Toyota and Subaru releasing an affordable RWD (wonders if Subaru will release an AWD STI) sports coupe, in this day and age = mega.

I do happen to be a bit of a Toyota fanboy, but I happen to think the Yaris T-sport is how a small sporty car should be, albiet they have been a bit dull as of late but even the aygo was small light and fun to drive. The MR-S was designed to be a drivers car which is why it didnt sell. A better steer than the Elise when its had a few tweaks.

Its not Toyotas fault that the market completely fell out of the sporty car market.

I bet the R&D costs are through the roof, if they carry on they won't even be able to breakeven.

Wouldn't mind a go in the T-Sport. My Dad's got a bog standard 1-litre he's been running into the ground since '02 - he's not the most mechanically sympathetic driver in the world biggrin Driven it a few times and though the engine's decent for the capacity, it's a bit wollowy around the corners and it feels like your sitting on it rather than in it. With the obvious improvements the T-Sport would bring, I think most of the issues I have with have with the base cars would be sorted smile

The one's I'd pictured were just off the top of my head though. MR2's another one I like the look of, though prefer the second generation even if the mk1's sometimes more highly regarded. Have heard the MR-S is a great driver's car, though a mate on another site ironically had a fair few reliability issues with his. Also read about the lack of practicality in terms of storage and the like, though I'm not fussed about such things laugh

Of the modern line-up though, I agree it's a bit lacking. The Aygo does seem like fun, though not sure if that had something to do with the Peugeot/Citroen tie-up. And of course there's the afore mentioned LF-A, which though I prefer the GTR, I love the sound of that v10 biggrin

Agree, but the details are now starting to actually distract from the proportions

Well neither the AE86 or Starlet came from from Toyota like that and Toyota don't make either of them anymore anyway. As for the Lexus..... yes we can all afford one of those.

Modern Toyotas are for dull non-petrol heads who have given up on driving and life in gerneral. Toyota will kill creativity with there crappy comitee designed rubbish.

Fair enough, none of those came out of Toyota like that but the standard cars aren't exactly boring. Yes, they're out of production, but they show Toyota have in the past created interesting and dare I say it, fun cars.

I can't abide some of the brand's current offerings - the Auris, Avensis and the hybrid that shall not be spoken of BUT surely this new boxer engined, rwd, sporting coupé is something?

And the Lexus was an example I put in to show what Toyota can do even if they price it ridiculously compared to it's competitors. It's like citing examples of what VW can do and finishing with the Veyron. Okay, maybe that was a bit of a stretch laugh

I absolutely agree with you. At their motor show stand in Geneva it was so bad to see all this Non-design in one place, I just glanced over. In so close comparion to the other car makers it was clearly visible that dullness has a name: Toyota !

But their management believes in it: The majoritiy of people seem to be dull and do not care about cars. So, all they want is a reliable ride. So, that is what Toyota makes in large quantities. And nothing more.

Design is for PHers and other minorities, I am afraid.

It seems you worked for them because I felt the same.

The last very nice Toyota design was the Celica 4WD Carlos Sainz.
Probably, it was an accident.

I was (after the red concept) ready to go and put a deposit on one but now.... frown I just hope that it loses half the junk stuck to it by the time it hits the dealers.

The proportions look like they have changed as well. It looks taller somehow... again frown

Japanese building for the european market again like Honda did with the FN?

It looks like it's got a little fussy but still, i really like it in some sort of way.

It just about passes for a convincing racer. Not like a ford with a fake diffuser even though these stuck on bits probably serve no purpose.

Funny thing is, as soon as Toyota quit F1 they have come up with what looks like a very interesting fleet of road cars / racers. Yes the Lexus LFA is a bit mental and way overpriced but now they have made the absolutely sublime engine and chasis iterations should become cheaper now the initial R&D is complete and hopefully paid for eventually.

Anyway straying off topic.

This FT-86, nice, ever since i saw the red concept my deposit would go down on one of these RWD toyota road cars. I've always fancied owning a supra, don't know way. They have appeal to me, a bit oldskool, but not enough to get me to buy one as they are very "wide boy" now. But this certainly scratches the itch. But 1 thing, it MUST have good power to weight and a better than excellent chassis.

Awesome first post if it is.

Not a big fan on the car though. The initial concept was much prettier.
Yes it is and thank you, I do like to make an entrance! wink I've been floating around for a few years but never got around to posting.

Have to say, the more I look at this, the more I like it, just a shame there won't be an AWD STi version frown

Thank you smile

I think perhaps killing them may be a touch harsh though wink I'm sure they'll be happy enough with Subaru's offering (which, from what I understand is 'slightly' more restrained in the extras dept). No AWD STi though from what I understand. An AWD hybrid (from Lexus) could perhaps be on the cards though... wink

That version Celica was st, it had to be IMO the dullest Toyota sports car made.

What a mess of a design. The 1999-2006 Celica looks far more refined than this.
