These cars look w@nk in the flesh. However when you roll into one drunk and someone you've never met bundles you home from the cocktail bar at warp factor 9 in utter comfort you'd be surprised what you'll forgive.

Squashed Cayenne maybe

Here comes the abuse ... waiting for the flood of criticism ... it's coming just as sure as the dawn!
I dont get it, I really like this car and would take it over a big merc or 7 series any day. The looks are not to suit all, but i think it looks great and very different to most big boring luxury saloons. Its not ugly like the clarksonphiles say

How can someone call this ugly, but something like the Mk1 Audi TT a beauty?? easy beacause fat mr clarkson said so..

sorry chaps i can not make sense of it.

Already? Usually I thought Porsche saved their "Turbo S" moniker for later in the life cycle.
Either way, 0-62 in 3.8 seconds?!!! Not that long ago the 911 Turbo was slower than that!
But on a 4-door saloon?! That's immense!

It's not the best car to look at, but neither was the M5, and people raved about that. If I won the lotto, I'd seriously consider one, especially since I can even fit my fat "American Arse" in the back seat.

It surely is a car that divides opinion. I've run a Turbo for the last 15 months and 12,000 miles. Once inside, I don't care how it looks on the outside, and the interior is a lovely place to be and beautifully made. To drive, it is one of the fastest point to point cars I have driven thanks to extraordinary traction, huge torque and (for a big car) great handling. True, the steering is a bit weighty, but the responsiveness belies its mass far better than, say, my old Alpina B5, which was dynamically at least two notches down the ladder.

What I do really like about the car is its Jekyll and Hyde character. In town it will give you a pretty good ride (thanks to the long wheelbase); on the motorway it is whisper quiet and very relaxing - seriously long distances are so easy; and at the same time it can demolish a B-road with Sport Plus engaged. The only thing that one has to be aware of is its excessive width.

Overall, a great driver's car given it is a big saloon, and that is what Porsche is about for me at least. Of the competitors, the Rapide is, as others say, useless as a proper 4 seater and too derivative in its styling for my taste; the big Mercs and BMWs are just a bit dull (although the Merc's 6.2 litre engine is special); only the big new XJ Jag would interest.

Finally, as for the Turbo S - the one thing the Turbo does not need is more power!

Cheers
