Cars with proper road presence

I share your confusion about tailgating. Not something I'm familiar with.. but speaking of being left alone. I did once get a scare in my 4.2 when an old shape Seat Cupra R with four occupants complete with baseball caps went up the outside of me out of a roundabout onto a dual carrigeway and it took liberal use of the accelerator rest, the length of a couple of gears and the familiar beep of the limiter a few times to clear a couple of car lengths between us!
There was nothing wrong with my Cerbera, in fact it put to shame many very serious cars who expected less but that little Seat took me by surprise. Fast car owners.. you've been warned!
Hmmm very interesting info...have been considering a shopping trolley for Mrs C, 147GTA, R32Flog, etc hadn't considered the Cupra R. that said I seem to recall a couple of the Cerb lads have had 'moments' with Aldi R8s whereas they'd put up a fair show before being dispatched by a growling AJP.There was nothing wrong with my Cerbera, in fact it put to shame many very serious cars who expected less but that little Seat took me by surprise. Had a Mk5 R32 from new, lovely in every way but not fast enough to justify mind boggling fuel consumption (9.7mpg over 150miles driving to and through Wales at 00.30am was my worst average) I struggled to use that much doing the exact same journey in the Cerb because if you left your foot planted for long enough you'd die/lose licence. I lost my licenceMy only breif run in with an R8 wasn't so impressive for the R8. He saw me come up behind (I was in 2nd 5000rpm;) ) he floored it, I pulled right up behind him, he let off I laughed and backed off to a comfortable following distance.
Strangely, no-one bothers me in this. Sure, on an A road, motorway, or anywhere where you can get past 61, it doesn't stand a chance. However, manouvering round Sainsburys' car park on a Saturday morning is a delightfully stress free experience, as nothing says "You're gonna come off worse than me" than not a single straight panel, flaking paint & a rubbish steering lock.

TBH most of the execcy brand new boring saloons in this thread I wouldn't give a second glance.
a big powerful shiny new car is not a car people give respect/ and a wide berth to.
a lightly scruffy big powerful 4x4, now that works like a treat.
In my old Cherokee XJ which was perma-covered head to toe in mud, people seem to dive to a halt just to let you out. I think they think that if I couldn't stop to avoid running off the road, I won't stop for then:P
