I like town driving!
Discussion
Who else is with me?
I'm at university, so spend about half the year carless and move about by bike. When I do come home, driving again's obviously pretty high on the list of priorities - but what I've realised is that enjoy driving around town as much as I do a country blast - admittedly this may slightly be due to the typical 1.1 econobox, and I don't mean driving in gridlock, but when in town medium-low levels of traffic are actually pretty entertaining. More cerebral perhaps, as you're planning your next move rather than wrestling with physics, with is instinctive. Anyway, who else thinks negotiating 4 roundabouts a mile and arbitrary extra lanes fun?

I don't love it, but it can be satisfying smoothly and quickly slicing through a city centre, it's dull and annoying when the traffic is backed up on every road in every direction though. Some people I know have such an intense dislike/fear of driving in city centres that they refuse outright!

point, 'satisfying' is a better way of describing it. A nice series of mini-roundabouts where you can see in advance no one's going to make you stop I would describe as fun though. And nope I've never driven the kirkstone pass, more's the pity (although I do have some nice country roads nearby, almost always deserted as well). As for the admiration, well, what can I say... a stock base model clio does give me more tail than I know what to do with Milton Keynes roundabout system (the part connected by national speed limit dual carriageways) is fun, I should imagine. That said, last time I was there was about 8 years ago. I expect it is all 20mph zones with average speed cameras, and Goebbels and Himmler watch over the town via CCTV from Brussels.
My job involves driving through a busy city centre around 50% of the time. As you start to learn all the short cuts etc there is nothing more satisfying than jumping huge queues of traffic. So yes I quite like town driving, apart from when it snows and everyone does there best to either crash in to you or drive at 1mph.

I love driving through London on a summers evening with the roof down.
8am on a Monday morning is a whole different thing
I agree. I often drive from various friends places around central to my own in West London and in the summer months its a real treat. Sunroof as opposed to convertible but its enjoyable none the less. 8am on a Monday morning is a whole different thing

you haven't driven around brecon beacons on a quiet saturday/sunday morning have you
ivinghoe beacon... I've done a few scenic routes but that doesn't actually do much for me as it's a choice of 'enjoy the scenery' or 'enjoy the drive', attempting to both results in rather too close an 'enjoyment' of the scenery for me! (where's a :crash: smiley when you need one?). One more thing that's fun about town driving: threading through emtpy rat runs. Makes the journey feel more dramatic, and you feel like a cabbie
