I will be the first to say it... I quite like it and think it looks 'different' and quite menacing.

WRC has gone right off - from absolute greatness to pig ugly, pathetic sounding and boring to watch.

Everyone knows the formula to get it back on track and this certainly is not it!

Or how about Hire Car?

Double park - don't lock the door
Push the pedals through the floor
Give it loads and then some more
It's a hire car baby

Grip the stick - grind the gears
Watch that distance disappear
Never yours in a thousand years
It's a hire car baby

Hire-car, hire-car
Why would anybody buy a car?
Bang it, prang it, say ta ta
It's a hire car baby

Bad behaviour on the street
Save yourself a couple of sheets
Collision rate keeps it sweet
It's a hire car baby

Show this motor no respect
Bump it, dump it, call collect
What else do the firm expect
It's a hire car baby

Drive the fker anywhere
Just like you don't care
Put it down to wear and tear
It's a hire car baby

Pray the person who hired it last
Didn't drive it quite so fast
This dakarum dodgem doesn't last
It's a hire car baby

Try not to kill yourself
Or injure anybody else
Don't forget to fasten your belts

Rent it, dent it, bang it, prang it
Bump it, dump it, scorch it, torch it
Crash and burn it, don't return it
Lost deposit, let 'em earn it
Who cares, it's on the firm
It's a hire car baby

We're talking about John Cooper Works rally cars, and he posts a picture of two.

And that's stupid and utterly pointless?

Calm yourself.
In fairness, neither if the cars pictured are Works rally cars, so yes pointless as they have nothing to do with the topic. And stupid because I know the picture is trying to show how much bigger one car is than the other, while totally ignoring the fact that one is a 2 door compact saloon and the other a 5 door SUV/Crossover. Also ignoring the fact that one is a 1950's designed car while the other is a 2010's designed car.

Even if you made a new car with exactly the same dimensions inside the interior as a classic Mini it'd still be far larger on the outside due to different legislation and crash requirements.

And the Countryman is actually mini for an SUV. It's not a big car in today's Market. And I'm pretty sure if you compared a current Golf to a MKI it'd be a lot bigger too, or a MKII Focus to a MKI Escort or even an Anglia. All cars have generally got bigger in the mass Market.

One car is bigger than the other. We know that. Doesn't mean posting a picture of it is stupid.

Seriously mate, you need to calm down a bit, stop letting silly little things get you so annoyed.
Not annoyed at all smile

Curious though, why don't you think it's stupid? Or rather what relevance would you said it had to the topic?

You're kidding, right?

It's a discussion about Mini rally cars. So someone posted a picture of Mini rally cars. And you don't think it's at all relevant?

Leave it out.
Are we looking at the same picture?????? confused

The one I'm looking at says AutoExpress in the bottom left corner. And shows on the right a standard production model classic Mini with early door hinges. A 100% road car and I'm not sure it's even a Cooper. And on the left a 100% stock looking road going production Countryman.

Where are the rally cars in that picture?

I think the point of the picture is they're not Mini anymore.

I wonder if this mini is now actually bigger than the maxi...
Probably not, but just a thought.

As others have said though, I hope the pig ugly car does well.

I agree, however the ONLY curent racing formula that is close to what everyone wants (Groupe B) would be RallyCross. However i think that would be thought TOO fast for most rally stages (read fans) and therefore they will never move that way.

I think to make ALL formas of motorsport more fun, different and intresting would be to stick to KEY regulations and remove all others.

FOr example imagine a F1 car that could ONLY produce XXXkg of downforce total at xyz speed and only had a set amount of fuel for test, quali and race. Then its down to the team if they want more front/rear down force. They can run WHATEVER engiens they want (4 cylinder turbos to V12) and yet you are keeping the KEY performance limitations the same.

Same could be applied to WRC. Limit the fuel between stages to a set amount and let companies run whatever engines they want.

In RallyCross you can also build a spaceframed car that is MUCH lighter than the 4WD cars as long as its rear wheel drive only! AND you can run whatever engine you want with NO restrictors! that would be great for WRC and should help reduce costs.

Chris.

I think it looks awesome in the first picture. I think it needs the person looking at it to forget about the original Mini before they can appreciate the look of the new one. Definitely menacing.

Still vehemently opposed to the regular version, though.

Sure it's not the nicest proportioned car, but why does it have to be; it's a tool. Function over form and all that...

Surely some of the best and most interesting rally cars haven't been lookers (there are many exceptions, admittedly). The Audi S1 and the 6R4 are hardly pretty cars, but they're purposeful and very cool. Or if we come out of the rose tinted spectacled group B cars, which almost unanimously are all loved, what about the Corolla, Pulsar or Legacy; ste looking cars but somehow looked good on a stage.

Although after all that rant, I personally think it looks well, better seems to suit it's looks more than the road car.
