Not shocked at all, it was one of the reasons why I was looking to sell the Saab and getting something with a smaller engine....well it was until I found out that a smaller engined car (in this case a 1.4 megane) was actually going to cost me nearly £500 a year more to insure. Thats an almost 50% increase over my existing policy on the Saab and at least £300 more than my renewal on the Saab. Needless to say I'm sticking put for the time being (well until December when I treat myself to an MGF for Christmas)

You may well know this, but the engine size of a car isn't the only thing taken into consideration when calculating your premium. I went from a 1.9 120bhp diesel Astra (05 plate) to a 2.0 Mazda 3 148bhp petrol (57 plate) and the premium was about £100 cheaper.

Mine hardly changed.

I did try running quotes with a group 1 car and found I would only save £200 so not worth the effort of changing.

Can I pre-post this response for all future car insurance shocker threads?

care to name the 4 other Cities which came up higher than Bradford in the IFB rankings?

Claims do definitely account for the premiums going up....by an average of £44 per policy...dont let the figures cloud the fact the these companies are making huge profits, but i concede that the donkeys making fraudulent claims are not helping the matter, rather providing the insurance companies with exucses to rinse as much as they can from us.

I'm wondering about putting mine back on - more comfortable and better economy than the summer set. Maybe I should start a winter tyres thread?
