Paul can you create a Groundhog Day forum for insurance and fuel price threads please.

You may well know this, but the engine size of a car isn't the only thing taken into consideration when calculating your premium. I went from a 1.9 120bhp diesel Astra (05 plate) to a 2.0 Mazda 3 148bhp petrol (57 plate) and the premium was about £100 cheaper.

Oh yes I know that as well, the idea was also one of saving on the cost of fuel etc etc It was more the fact that any fuel and tax savings would instantly vanish on the insurance that annoyed me lol

Mine as well. I think I paid ~£380 last year (cant find the docs). Renewal this year came to £320, but if I renewed online a further £20 discount making it a rather refreshing £300. Omega 3.0 v6 Fully comp, 30k business miles, parked on my drive , mrs and me on the policy. Aviva are offering 3 months free at the moment.

Mine went down over £250!

And I'm under 25 so I was expecting a massive rise, very surprised to see it drop nearly 25%

So hang on, you're saying that everyone has been telling you that theirs went up, but you somehow thought you were "special" so it wouldn't happen to you? confused

Mine went down by about £200 - then again, last year's policy was with some mainstream bloodsuckers whereas this year's was the AROC's in-house Alfas-only policy.

NCB doesn't dictate your premium.

Mine went from £360 last year (5 years NCB and 1 SP30) to £580 with 6 years NCB and no points.

Complete and utter B'stards.
There must be some weird combinations that insurance company software algorithms don't like.

I've been pretty happy with the premiums for me, wifey & older daughter for a few years (mine went down this year). But every year it's a real battle to get a reasonable premium for younger daughter. She was 25 this year and it still went up massively, again.

When I was below 25 I spent years thinking "it'll be cheaper when I am 25" - as the insurers kept telling me. Then I hit 25, it wasn't cheaper. The insurers told me that it will be cheaper when I am 30.

On the plus side, it is a bit........

It'd be wary of any insurer or insurance representative who says it will be cheaper at 21,25,30 there is nothing to say you are a safer driver the day after your 25th birthday than the day before.
The only thing that does tend to reduce at 21 and 25 is excess.

not having a go at you just pointing out the "insurance goes down at 25" myth

Interesting stuff, mine over past 5 years :-

06 - £242
07 - £256
08 - £262
09 - £260
10 - £280

Not bad me thinks. Been with the company over 10 years now, after one minor claim, it WENT DOWN the following year.

Guess its being a "mature" driver, no points, area maybe, and car maybe. Sounds like some of you are being ripped off.

Why?, there a large number of reasons prices would increase.
