It'd be wary of any insurer or insurance representative who says it will be cheaper at 21,25,30 there is nothing to say you are a safer driver the day after your 25th birthday than the day before.
The only thing that does tend to reduce at 21 and 25 is excess.

not having a go at you just pointing out the "insurance goes down at 25" myth
No, that is precisely what I used to say as well. When I was 24 with my Chimaera, I asked him what would change with my driving the day I was 25 - he just said that's the stats. So then I asked them to reduce the premium as soon as I hit 25 i.e. recalculate it on my birthday when it arrived as it was of course part way through the policy year, but mysteriously they couldn't do that........

it suposedly goes down because when you reach 25 according to statistics you are less likely to have an accident. when you are in the 17- 24 or 21 bracket you are more likely too crash (statisticly). especially if its in your first two years of driving

A lot of them have excess loadings which change at 21 & 25 though, so you can see why people would think they are insurance milestones.

FYI, older daughter was always with Admiral and her premium went up big time at 25 (3yrs ago now). I forget the exact numbers now, but it went from around £300 to £500. Where Admiral had always been the chepapest of the recognised names, they were suddenly way out. Pleading with the call-centre extracted a small loyalty discount. She got insurance with Zurich for £250 and is now with LV=. Stupid really, a bit of thought and they'd have kept her business.

Bell (I realise it's probably exactly the same people) did a better job with younger daughter amd kept her business but she seems to keep being caught by increasing premiums by all insurers.

I wonder if insurers want to get rid of people after 5yrs, thinking they're due for an accident!

Bonkers, I'd take it with a pinch of salt the whole 21,25 age thing.
Some people may see a reduction but that would be a combination of things rather than just the age.

Postcode, model of car, occupation, named drivers occupation etc etc.

Theses details may remain the same for you but if your insurer experiences an increas in claims with people sharing these details your premium can increase.
That's before I even mention injury claims and increase in marketing costs, comparison sites etc etc.

Sorry buddy not trying to go down the route of "I know more than you" (although I may come across like that sometimes hehe ), I try and correct people where ever I can on insurance that way the more information you have about insurance the less likely you're to be caught out with insurers in future thumbup.

Forgot to add to my earlier post, as I had been a member of the RAC for over 10 years, I asked them for a quote, theirs was just double what I am currently paying.

When the guy said after working it out "How's that sound sir"

I told him "Absolutely rubbish, your more than double what I am paying now"

They wouldn't budge on price either.

We know.

And it's always helpful getting information on this area from those in the know.

That's the excuse. Was it really so different last year with regards to those claims ?

I found the comparison websites the oddest for throwing up costs. Can someone please explain to me why the supposed same policy, with the exact same details entered on different compare sites, produces different quotes .. which is different again to price quoted on the insurance company site.

Insurance is multi car with Admiral and was £900 this year for a group 17 and 16 car - which was together £300 less than the E39 M5 I had last insured three years ago.

Odd that.

Insurance companies have different commission fees with different comparison sites for policies and also extra comission for certain target groups.

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201011/cmselect/cmtran/591/59105.htm

Table 1: Number of motor insurance injury claims notified to the Compensation Recovery Unit
2000-05 average 2005-06 2006-07 2007-08 2008-09 2009-10
395,735 466,097 518,821 551,905 625,072 674,997

"23. According to the ABI, some 10% of motor insurance premiums pay for the legal costs associated with personal injury claims and the average legal cost associated with a claim (£2,100) is almost as great as the average amount paid to the claimant (£2,430)"

So average claim cost to insurer is £4500. You work it out.
