He's right. Many of the RS's were raced, damaged, re-built, raced etc and as a result many have iffy histories. Real collectors value low miles (somehow rebuilt cars never feel the same) and provenance above all, Watson's car has both.

ISTR it might have had paint, but I bet it still would be priced at the very top of the market, now £250k.

it's a pity it's not a m471 sport rather than the much more commonplace m472 touring - if so it would be minimum 300k.....

Minimum 200k given current market its unrestored condition and history. The are silly money now, but they are still value in comparison to similar significant ferrari.
And I thought E30 M3s are overpriced... scratchchin

Really you should compare the 911RS with the 3.2 E9 CSL - circa 72/73. Some of them fetch a £100k now.

& the E30 Sport Evo (1990) with the 964RS (1992), one of these is overpriced smile

I think we know that. wink

It's just interesting to look at the cost of an E30 M3 at say 10-50k and this 911 at 250k. Two completely different cars but tend to appeal to a similar type of petrol-head.

Yes, more of this please. Make them longer too, it would have been great to have read more about JW's car history as I'd imagine he's owned some other interesting stuff over the years.

RST £180-220 k, RSL £230-300 k. From good authority.

forgot to say, what a lovely bloke and fabulously special car - who cares what its worth, sometimes emotional worth exceeds financial.

I agree, it was more out of curiosity that I asked the question.

In fact, apologies for sullying the thread with such vulgar talk, let us instead celebrate a fine gentleman and his wonderful car.

Good article. As for John Watson as a driver, I have been watching alot of ESPN classic Formula One, some great footage in them. JW was a really hard racer, he was generaaly mixing it with the top guys and if it was not for reliabilty he would have won more races.

I recall one race in Holland when he and Mario Andretti were having an almighty tussle.

Good article. You have to pay attention when someone like this talks about sports cars. The subject of size and weight looms large.

I'd say a value of around 200k.
What did the RS make that James Hunt owned the Yellow one?
Mind i think that was an RSR so probably made 300k+

Lovely write up.

The reg number JW1 isnt currently on a caR, Must be on retention.

The market would go wild for a 1 racing driver owner RS with that patina and mileage..

Would it be worth more as a LHD car?
