He's right. Many of the RS's were raced, damaged, re-built, raced etc and as a result many have iffy histories. Real collectors value low miles (somehow rebuilt cars never feel the same) and provenance above all, Watson's car has both.
ISTR it might have had paint, but I bet it still would be priced at the very top of the market, now £250k.

it's a pity it's not a m471 sport rather than the much more commonplace m472 touring - if so it would be minimum 300k.....ISTR it might have had paint, but I bet it still would be priced at the very top of the market, now £250k.

And I thought E30 M3s are overpriced...
It puts things into perspective alright. & the E30 Sport Evo (1990) with the 964RS (1992), one of these is overpriced

It's just interesting to look at the cost of an E30 M3 at say 10-50k and this 911 at 250k. Two completely different cars but tend to appeal to a similar type of petrol-head.

Good article. As for John Watson as a driver, I have been watching alot of ESPN classic Formula One, some great footage in them. JW was a really hard racer, he was generaaly mixing it with the top guys and if it was not for reliabilty he would have won more races.
I recall one race in Holland when he and Mario Andretti were having an almighty tussle.
