Any suggestions?

That wont get me an M5 unfortunately frown

I'm a bit baffled and not inspiered by the usual BMW/Audi fare.

What would you suggest.

Subaru Legacy B4 RSK, with a large chunk of change to pay for all the super unleaded.

I'm biased because I have one.

Jag XJR or even the S-type R. Both have the same 400hp V8 engine and can both be had for under 10k

Had an Evo 8 a few years ago and loved it.
But unfortunately I am getting old and need something that wont rattle my delicate skeleton quite so much. smile

Can be mapped to 480bhp - £10,995

ETA: Just seen 'not inspired Audi BMW etc'. In that case..

E55 AMG, at a stretch.

I would have thought £10k would get you a very nice M5 (E34 or E39, not E60).

An M5 E34/E39 and an RS6 will cost an absolute fortune to maintain!

Its more to do with mileage concerns really.
Theres a lot to go wrong with them and I was just being cowardly in the face of potential big bills.

The E39 M5 would be great as would the AMG55 and the RS6 posted but I just worry about the bills with cars like that with very high miles.

Or am I just being overly paranoid?

Nah, you just want to eat the cake and have it...

Paraphrasing - "With great powers, comes potential for big bills"

You can't expect an older car, with 400BHP+ to be as cheap to run (including repairs) as a new shopping hatch.

Everything fast below 10k will be older and expensive to buy when new. Everything older will possibly break down and because expensive when new - the repairs will be also expensive.

I would just buy at the lowest end of the scale (as in 6k M5s) and leave 4k for repairs. Nobody will promise you that the one for 10k will not break down more often than the cheapest one. And if you will steer away from Main Dealers 4k will fix a lot.
