Thought I'd check the oil on the LS this morning and it needed a drop, so I stopped at the fuel station on my way to the office.

Passing the BBQ charcoal, flowers, logs and papers by the door I started my search. I finally found it after passing various fresh fruit, meat, toilet roll, nappies, booze (assorted) and even some toilet cleaner with the oil being positioned on a bottom shelf opposite the baby food.

I remember when etc......

I know it's a cracking revenue earner for petrol stations to be supermarkets, but please keep the items relevant for cars visible and not hidden away like a bumper summer special copy of Razzle.

Over here, the only oil they stock in the filling stations seems to be 20W50 mineral, or 10W40 semi-synthetic.

I cringe when I see someone buying the 20W50 "Turbo Diesel" mineral oil, and going and getting in to their diesel Audi/VW. That's another PD going to have some serious cam issues sometime soon...

True enough. The selection of products has been dramatically reduced, although I was offered many different types of air freshener as an alternative.

hehe

I found Shell had a better selection of oils than most (and less fruit) when I needed some oil for my bike quickly one evening.

Surely it'll be fine, just the time for fresh oil will be sooner?
Alternatively, if it's leaking then it's "always fresh" ?

Buy some bananas, copies of Razzle, air-fresheners, Kit-Kats and then keep them under immense pressure for a few thousand centuries and Bob's your uncle, you have oil.

Always thinking.

Mineral oil should be ok, say for 3000 miles, synthetic for 10000 / 12 months.
As long as you don't let the mineral oil break down, and change it at 3000 miles then what's the issue (serious question)?

(BTW I dont' use Mineral, either Castrol or Mobil 1 depending on car)

The other week our Peugeot 308 needed a drop of oil, there's a big Total Station at Hindhead and as the Peugeot wants Total I went there to get some, but their stock of oil was really rather limited and they didn't even stock the stuff I needed... irked

What is this oil you speak of ? I've got an automatic and the salesman said I didn't have to do anything to it. He did mention something about a 710 filter.

Or even stock them at all. The other year I was out in my old Nissan 100NX when a rad hose clip broke and the hose popped off. After wedging it on I limped to a petrol station. They had neither jubilee clips or large cable ties. Not even a roll of duct tape. In fact nothing I could use to make a simple repair with. All I could do was buy over priced mineral water to use to top the rad up with.

In the end I had to use a shoe lace to tie the pipe on with. Then use my iPhone to find the nearest Halfords to buy a single clip and some coolant. 2 min easy fix that took about 2 hours to get the bits I needed.

It won't. A PD will be ruined in a few hundred miles with mineral oil in it.

Don't comment on things you've clearly no idea about.
