Okay, not a real one I'm afraid, but still pretty. Taken at a Ferrari show near my house last week.

This, however, is real: a 1955 Ferrari 500 Mondial Scaglietti Spyder Series II race car. A mouthfull, but arguably even nicer than the GTO. Won its class and another award at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and has numerous "best of shows" from other events.

FYI, all the pictures are mine and have not been edited in any manner. I also do not claim to know a thing about photography, I just line up something I like and click.

Thats just natural talent David. Million times better than the title pic. smile

Personally I love good photography and love good artwork. I don't care who did it and how they went about it. The result is what I am looking at, hardly pathetic to have an informed opinion is it, or maybe it is just because it doesn't agree with yours North West Tom?

I just think it's harsh to criticise someone's photo for being 'fake', when PH has previously used pics for POTW which have been near enough rendered to within an in of their original look. If people want good wallpapers, there's this cool site called Google, no need to have a dig at the guy. (Yes, I understand that there's some contradictory in my post).

I thought you may be having a dig at my comment but I see what you are saying about 'fake' which is fair enough.

I know the 250GTO is a legendary car commanding legendary prices but the design just doesn't look balanced to my eyes. It's too rear-heavy. I do love it like I do most Ferraris but it wouldn't be my choice of perfect car.

Perhaps it's because I'm reading Brock Yates' account of the Cannonballs in the 1970s at the moment that I find myself wishing I could find £200K for one of these:

I expect mine will be a lone voice here. smile

Regardless, I like the OP photo if for no other reason than it's of a 250GTO and has got people talking about them.

NO. Yours it not a lone voice. In regard of design I would pick a "Daytona" over a "GTO" any time.

+1 - Love the Daytona, but might have the ragtop - never owned a ragtop so might as well make it worthwhile!

Much as i think the 250GTO is an amazing car i have to agree with MARS.

The Daytona is the one i would go for. I was lucky enough to use a Daytona, RPH 174L, as a 'company car' many years ago.

The noise, the looks, the engine. Just beautiful & in my eyes the Daytona is probably one of the most perfectly shaped cars ever built.

Can't really see what the fuss is about. It just looks like a generic italian sports car.
Did you forget to put a smiley face after that or was you being 100% serious?
I know people are rightly intitled to their opinion but come on, how can you say that it looks generic.
I've just come back from a long weekend in Monte Carlo and i can honestly say that the 458 italia and california (modern one) are generic italian supercars but in no way is the 250 GTO. Everyday i was seeing Ferraris like they were Ford Fiestas but the real treat was seeing an original Porsche 550 spyder (called 'Little bd' if anyone knows it) on Monaco plates.
It was parked next to a 458 and in no way did THAT look generic, i've loved the 250 series since i was a child and recently i've been lucky enough to purchase a 250 GTE, which is under restoration.
These cars go back to the days of when passion helped design these cars.
I'm not having a go or anything because everyones views are different but to say they are generic is like say Rovers are exotic haha.

I have to disagree. I've never seen the facination with Daytonas. I think the Maserati Ghibli is a much nicer looking car, but of course, that's just my opinion. I do agree that the GTO is also overrated. It is a beautiful car, but there are other Ferraris from the era that are nicer. I think the 250 Tour de France SWB is overall a nicer proportioned car than the 250 GTO, yet commands 1/10 of the price of a GTO.

One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite movies! A much better film than the "Cannonball Run" series.
