How does the Megane R26 F1 stand up to these? I know they are rapid but do they fall aart and rattle like most French cars? Also not sure I can get my head around that rear!
There good not the quickest in a line, awesome once on the b roads just abit dull, cheap and boring inside IMO

I thought thet were 0-60 in 6.0 seconds? Thats pretty impressive for a hot hatch?

How are they for reliability? Are they prone to have bits drop off and rattle and sqeak?

They were not on my list but warming to them a hell of a lot.

I'm biased so:

2006 GTI with 40,000 miles http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2661574.htm (description sounds good, subject to all the normal checks)

2005 GTI with 20,000 miles http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2747099.htm (double check MOT & service record so the miles match!)

Lol read that originally as a 206 GTI not a 2006 GTI. Was going to kick u in the head lol.

Would love a Focus RS but a little concerned at the costs needed to keep it tip top and running well. It will be almost 10 years old when i get it. I heard turbos get a bit baggy by 60k plus all the costs associated with running an 'older' car. I need to polybush all round to tighten it up again plus lots of other touch ups i suppose. That true?

147 GTA with the Q2 Torsen diff upgrade, makes a world of difference, there are plenty of 147 GTA's in the OPs budget that have had all the mods required to alter it dynamically from what was shown on top gear.

Although, they can be quite expensive to maintain (check out my car blog)

Saying that, after the latest upgrade of catless manifolds I'm now getting an average MPG of 22 rather than 15, this is down to now having much more torque and being able to leave the car in higher gears, i.e. bumble around town in 5th treating it like it's an auto as it pulls strongly from below 20mph.

The 147 just seems to be too much to run and maintain for me. Im expecting a bit of a jump from my ST but most cars im looking at have a better MPG and servicing is similar in cost. The 147 is in a different league.

Anyone know how far behind the Clio 200 the 197 F1 edition is? and how does it compare to the R27?

I know you said that you don't like BMWs (for some reason known only to yourself) but a 130i might just be your cup of tea.

Up to you though.

I really want to like 197 and 200 RS clios but they just have no torque.

The one series is hideously ugly and the stigma attatched to them in my area is horrific. People under 30 that drive them tend to be....ummm special. Im not slagging people off but they are not much cup of tea.

They have no torque but nor does any Vtec car and they are still great. I drive a Fiesta ST and they are not renound for torque and that hasnt bothered me. I enjoy having to work the engine when i want to make some headway. 215/5,500 Nm/rpm isnt exactly lacking. My car only has 190 Nm and weighs similar amounts so its an improvement.

How about a 2nd Gen Mini Cooper S? You'd get an 07 plate for that budget, and for the record our old 08 plate Cooper s was as quick to 100 as my beat mates remapped (bluefin) ST.

Either that or an R32 has always appealed

I take it you don't like the CTR FN2?
They seem good value to me and reasonable running costs.
I'd go for a non turbo car ideally, it just seems right in a fun hatchback having all those revs to play with. It will also be a nice change to the focus st (i'm assuming you drive it sometimes)

Which speaks volumes for the people of 'your area'. An early 130 would be a fine choice.

Cat d but sounds to be in absolute mint cond...

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2684194.htm

Under budget and has the all important suspension mods done to tidy the handling only real problem is apparent lack of q2 which is iirc between 5-1500 quid.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2741094.htm

Anyone who pays any attention to the tg reviews is a plonker. It wont be the fastest car out there necessarily but it will be the most special.

and the ones listed above come in under budget the cat d being well under allowing for running cost offset.

Are hot hatches meant to have torque?

I'm not being rude, I'm just thinking aloud. I've got a very torquey hot hatch (albeit a big fat one) and it doesn't feel like a hot hatch.

Arguably, a defining element of a hot hatch is the need to rev the valves off.

Cooper S. It's about the only car in it's class I've genuinely enjoyed, and genuinely like the looks of. Also, it's not a fat looking identikit bloater.

I've always preferred the looks of the 6 MPS over the 3 for some reason.

There is so much nice metal about for 10k these days, spend some time to look around and don't jump to some of the obvious hot hatches.
