Calling the new car 914 would have been appropriate if the name hadn't already been wasted.
It's good to know people have taste out there, epic post.
Oooh...now thats nice!

James Dean, Porsche 550 is a stunner, to me at least!

This would be the 458 / McLaren competitor they talked about making.
will it be a better all rounder to the McLaren....??? seems like that has seriously moved the game on in terms of both ridiculous speed as well as comfort.

Like the car but why not call it the 918? I don't see the point in reusing 961.

When has Porsche ever released a bad car?

cayenne? hehe

i'm not doubting they release awesome cars, they do. my question was whether it'll move the game on more than the new McLaren seems to have done....

Is the McLaren really that special? It's slower and less practical than the latest 997 turbo S and considerably more expensive?!

Precious materials and fancy facts are all well and good.. but what does it really have going for it? It doesn't sound special, it isn't the fastest car in the world and it looks like every other car in that bracket. Hasn't moved looks on.

If I really had the money, today. I'd be after the Noble (for the drive) or the last Murcielargo for the experience/theatre.

Edited to add: I had my name on the Mclaren mailing list when they were going to try and undercut the 911 with it. A modern rival in that price bracket, boasting new innovations in design from a UK firm would truly have been something to marvel, as impressive as the F1, a British R8.. but at that price. It's nothing new.

slower than the new turboS rofl turboS is not as fast!! track time wise, the mclaren is about that of the gumpert apollo whilst being "as comfy as an E class" according to chris harris from evo. said it's the most talented car he's ever, ever driven by some margin.

edit - McLaren always said this was after the 458, they are doing a 911 rival in the near future.

this is what chris harris said:

Unlike any other sports car because it separates the roles of ride and roll-stiffness. On a straight, bumpy road, it’s more comfortable than a Merc E-Class, change direction and it’s sharper than a GT3.
