Saw one of these go past the other day, was just wondering if this one is still on the fleet and how is it doing.
Interested in the MPG, late teens/early twenties, doesn't sound that bad really !
When I lived in SE London and was commuting to Chertsey each day [Oval/Embankment/Earls Court/Hammersmith/A4/M4/M25] I achieved an average of 24MPG. I get around 32MPG on a run, and 20-ish around town.Interested in the MPG, late teens/early twenties, doesn't sound that bad really !
Mine's a '98 Mk4. Fully laden 530 miles Eastbourne to Dundee overnight on a single tank. 34.9mpg
Only dropped to 32.8 on the return journey, daytime, congestion, not hanging about.
A bit less around town
Previous owner took it through France and Spain and reported 38mpg averaging 60mph, which I thought was bullst at the time. Now I think it's entirely plausible but there's no way I could crawl along hours on end at 60.

bloke who sold the car,had your pants down,it obviously had a bent mot, you dont get that much wear in a few weeks, should have gone to mot test garage and see what they would have done,or call the no on the mot for help. with the repairs and tyres you spent the same as you paid for the car
I have to recommend the LS 400 as a Luxo-Barge.
I bought one 5 months ago and despite initial worries, see http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?s...
...I am more than happy with it. Total cost to me so far including the initial purchase is £2600.96
I keep a spreadsheet that tells me what the cost works out to be per month, since purchase, so I can see if it becomes too much of a money drain. I ran an old e34 525 for 20 months and that worked out at £68 per month, once I had included the £120 I got from the scrappy when it came to the end of its life. I don't include:
Tax
Insurance
Petrol
Screenwash
...Everything else is noted, even oil.
This is, in my opinion, the only way to run an old car, we all know what the insurance should be and should have an idea of fuel consumption, so go in with our eyes open. The benefit of using a SS is that it cannot lie. The human aspect of 'rationalising' costs is removed. If you have a barge that has cost £3000 over 30 months and is still going strong, you can justify a new set of tires as that won't put the average cost up too much, if you are spending a lot and the average is rising, with no end in sight, then it's time to let it go.
Just my 10cents worth.
Nice forum BTW, a few dheads but you get them on most car forums.

Is this a comment towards Garlick's car? If so, I recommend that you go back and read through the thread, including my earlier post given that I am the person who sold the car to Garlick.
"Bent MOT's"?
Not at all and not a nice accusation, completely unfounded as it is, to make either.
