Just looking for some advice on which CTEK charger I should buy for a 2007 997 GT3 .

Would this one be OK? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000RHWCNY/ref=...

That one will be fine. I'm sure mine didn't cost as much as £60 though.

I've used one of these for years, excellent bit of kit and was fine for my old 997.1 GT3...

Always good to have a choice wink

The one you get from Aldi/Lidl for less than twenty squids, it's just as good smile

Are you planning on trickle charging via the cigarette lighter socket ? If so, you'll need to buy it separately (not too expensive)

Thanks for all your replies chaps.

Roadrunner, I am planning on charging the battery directly via the terminals.

The one I linked to on my initial post has been ordered now, thanks again all

I'm using the same one for my car, for convenience though I also use the cigarette lighter and just run the lead in throught the passenger window. It does mean the CTEK unit is sat either on the dash or on the passenger seat which initially concerned me as it does heat up but it does not appear to be a problem.

Why do you do that? I just plug the CTEK I at the wall, lie the unit on the floor of the garage and run the 12v lead in under the door. I.e lay it over the seat and shut the door.

LOL I'm sure my lead for the 12v cigarette socket isn't long enough to reach out of the car onto the floor? I'm at work today but you can guess what I will be checking as soon as I get home tonight!

Buy the battery charger from Lidl. It's about £14

Aldi have them in this week. - the Lidl ones work just as well but the Aldi one has an LCD voltage readout (which most of the Ctek ones don't even have), useful for seeing how low the battery has got. I have about 8 Aldi ones and 6 Lidl ones and 1 Ctek, had them for years now and all do the same job.

I have fitted a permanent power take off tail from the battery running through a 10Amp fuse. I have a matching connector on the battery charger. When the vehicle is going to be unused for a few days or more I connect it up to the charger and leave the boot lid open on its first catch.

By comparison I have two Toyota vehicles which were recently left unstarted for 10 weeks. They both fired up first time. The 996 battery last about 10 days, even though it is a larger than spec.

Close the door on the lead and sit the charger in its plastic packaging tray on the garage floor......

So what would warrant the use of a trickle charger.
How many days of not starting the car, a week? 2 months?

In my experience 2 weeks is a good guideline. It will of course go longer than that, but that is roughly the point where you become aware that the battery isn't in ideal shape. IMHO
