I've used one of these for years, excellent bit of kit and was fine for my old 997.1 GT3...
Always good to have a choice

I'm using the same one for my car, for convenience though I also use the cigarette lighter and just run the lead in throught the passenger window. It does mean the CTEK unit is sat either on the dash or on the passenger seat which initially concerned me as it does heat up but it does not appear to be a problem.

Why do you do that? I just plug the CTEK I at the wall, lie the unit on the floor of the garage and run the 12v lead in under the door. I.e lay it over the seat and shut the door.REALIST123 said:

LOL I'm sure my lead for the 12v cigarette socket isn't long enough to reach out of the car onto the floor? I'm at work today but you can guess what I will be checking as soon as I get home tonight!Aldi have them in this week. - the Lidl ones work just as well but the Aldi one has an LCD voltage readout (which most of the Ctek ones don't even have), useful for seeing how low the battery has got. I have about 8 Aldi ones and 6 Lidl ones and 1 Ctek, had them for years now and all do the same job.
I have fitted a permanent power take off tail from the battery running through a 10Amp fuse. I have a matching connector on the battery charger. When the vehicle is going to be unused for a few days or more I connect it up to the charger and leave the boot lid open on its first catch.
By comparison I have two Toyota vehicles which were recently left unstarted for 10 weeks. They both fired up first time. The 996 battery last about 10 days, even though it is a larger than spec.

So what would warrant the use of a trickle charger.
How many days of not starting the car, a week? 2 months?
In my experience 2 weeks is a good guideline. It will of course go longer than that, but that is roughly the point where you become aware that the battery isn't in ideal shape. IMHOHow many days of not starting the car, a week? 2 months?
