clubsport cage into comfort 996 gt3?

mine is a comfort but fitted with the recaros and i would like to fit a rear cage.
any pointers on where to buy one,and is it a faff to fit?

Front and rear, or just rear ? Rear requires strengthening plates adding to the rear floorpan. You'll be drilling holes in the floor for the fixing bolts too.
Are you going for a look, or wanting to fit harnesses in ? If it's the latter, go for the easier (and cheaper) option, fit the Tequipment cage. No drilling, no plates, just bolts in.

The front section needs the welded plates too, Henry

IMHO, the Tequipment item is for looks only. It's as much use as a chocolate fireguard in the event of a rollover, unlikely as that may be.

Techquipment stainless rear cage looks good and is a great solution if you want to fit harnesses. I think it's a bit more usefull than a chocolate fire guard but not in the same league as a proper clubsport cage - think of it as a third way twixt harness bar and full monty. Good enough for your average track dayer.

Hiya,

I had the full bolt-in Porsche Motorsport cage (front and rear) fitted to my 996.2 comfort. Needed plates welding in as Nick mentions and also carpets have to be cut. RPM Technik did the work for me and they got quite a few plates fabricated off my template. Give Ollie a shout, I'm sure he'll have some left.

The Tequipment cage is available from dealers or a specialist can order it along with the correct harness bars and schroth harnesses ( which can of course also be bought elsewhere eg msar). The fitting is best left to a specialist as its a gaff, the seats have to come out.

Chocolate fire guard? IMHO, with one fitted, I expect it adds significantly to the rigidity of the car and the rollover protection. It's a very substantial item.

There are a few other aftermarket solutions but there is a reason so many cars have this Porsche one fitted. It's the best at the price point. Have a Hans compatible drivers harness and buy a HANS device while you are at it. They are much cheaper these days.

It does virtually nothing for rigidity. It may have marginal rollover protection though there's only one way to find out.

I've had this done to my Comfort spec car. Bought a rear section clubsport cage off eBay along with the precut carpets that come in a CS car. They very rarely come up, but much much better than the tequipment equivalent as mentioned above.
I had it bonded in by Matt at Fearnsport. You could search for them at breakers yards.

You'll also need to buy 2 sub-bars to fit both (Porsche specific Schroth) harnesses.

Tracking a 996 GT3 with no bracing vs tracking with Tequipment vs racing the same car with clubsport vs clubsport with additional welding vs custom welded FIA approved cage. Improvement in rigidity was noticeable with clubsport plus additional welding and significantly higher with FIA custom cage.


Edited to add: just to be clear, my earlier comment was in relation to Tequipment and not to the OP's original question re clubsport.

I have had the rear section done. It is quite straight-forward to do but as the guys said, you will be drilling holes in your car. I bought the rear section carpet (where the GT3 badge is) also rather than cutting.
