So! Finally! Today was the day. She's mine. Beautiful car, really pleased. Cost me £18,883 in the end as seller paid for PPI. Unfortunately that was all he paid for. What an unbelievable palava: no tax no MOT, no service for 2 years and it wouldn't start when I went to pick it up due to shot battery so I drove straight to Halfords! That all cost me an extra £1000 today with major service inc! She looks in rude health apart from the above. Immaculate interior and great paintwork for a 20 yr old. I think the problem is it has been out of use for 6 months or so.

I think you mentioned big jobs only needed doing once...well that steering rack has already been overhauled once but still leaking? I have left it for the moment and might get my mate take a look.

Immediate concerns are that the roof is not opening or closing properly and is missing a bolt on one side so one of the arms is hanging free. Needs a push to prevent off side catch sticking and pulling hood to one side. Also won't sit all the way back when open. PPI guy said that it just needed adjusting (he didn't mention there was a bolt missing!) but I am still a little nervous. However the hood looks like it has probably been replaced as quite clean from outside.

Also the speakers are shot which is infuriating as I didn't pick it up. Looking for plug and play replacements (non-hi), see other post.

I think I did ok on the deal for the cheapest 993 on the market, though. This is a clean example and will be worth good money when I have thrown another grand or so at it (pray the hood is adjustment only!)

All in all today has been a very good day smile

Its gone well then hehe

Is this a wind up? It did really come with an MOT surely, and have I read correctly, you got Halfords service her?

GOD NO!!!! Halfords for the calcium battery! I wanted to spare you the rest of the long, sorry story. Major service at Chelsea Carrera had been done by me and they delivered it back to dealer. I will tell you that I counted 40 + phone calls to both the dealer and the garage. Maybe that will explain my week!

Yes, no MOT. Found out as I went to pick up car! Dealer did not even realise. I should have checked all the paperwork and not taken his word. This what happens when you get a grand off asking price, even though I had every right to knock him down after PPI report. Dealers just looking to make it up somewhere. Maybe I should have been tougher but I was worried I might lose the car and I knew I was onto a good example for the price.

Dealer was John Pulciano of Pulciano Classics fame (pre Joe Macari, Wandsworth) now running London LHD Centre in Chelsea. He's a nice guy but he's been in the business 30 years so he obviously knows how to play the game.

Anyway, all's well that ends well! I've got a clean 993 that's been checked out for £20k and maybe needs another £1-2k to make it perfect.

Happy bunny smile

I have got one of the blue ones as well. I will sell it before the summer to make room for something a little more exotic:

Nice Turbo Cab. Had one for the weekend and it was such a hoot in sport mode. Amazing.

Right now my blue feels very exotic. Kind of first love. You remember? You gonna trade her in for a younger model??

I've given up looking for the right car in the UK for now and started looking overseas, it seems private sellers are valuing cars based on what some of the top dealers are advertising for (not selling)

There is so much choice in the US, it makes me curious.

The wheeler dealer car seems to have a 60k service interval gap!

Depends on a number of factors but £50k for sub 60k miles is a very rough ball park.

I would say more like 45k for that. Unless the market has moved again!

So many of these cars that are getting sold are heading overseas HK, Singapore, Australia etc it's no wonder the remaining pool of cars are going up like they are

I believe that this is by some margin, the number one reason why values of all air cooled cars are heading for the stars.

Like I say, depends on a number of factors. The market seems to be increasing monthly these days.

OPC have a red 993 2s up for £60k which is getting a bit crazy given the spec etc. I guess with turbo's approaching £100k everything else is rising.

Its certainly a nice time for 993 owners.

I know it shouldn't matter etc but it means that you can invest in improving your car in confidence.

Bad points to higher value:
Higher insurance premiums
More concerned about leaving it places
See less of them being used and abused!
Greater risk of it being stolen for parts - hard back seats are going for £4-5K alone!
People become obsessed with keeping the value up by driving them less etc.

Sad times.

Because the 993 is such a useable car there are very few "low mileage" cars in the first place as people bought them to use them (rather than a 2nd car).
