The sunshine has inspired me to get the GT2 out of hibernation and one of the to do's was to replace the PCCB's, so before I potentially go down the steel route, just wondered if anybody had some stashed away or for sale?

Have you considered the following, looks like the final product could be better than new, also can be redone and much cheaper than new ones.

Anyone used?

Used set in the classifieds for 2K from a GT3, missing rear bells but I`m guessing you could re-use yours ?

Looks interesting.

And note this under their "Refurbishing process"

"The disc is completely reassembled and is weighed once more and precision-balanced"

The moral of this ? Don't f*ck about with stuff you have no/limited knowledge of.

I have a set of Surface Transforms discs and bells for a 996 GT2 :

http://www.surfacetransforms.com/

They supply Alcon with their ceramic discs, who in turn supply JZM :

This car has them fitted : http://www.911uk.com/ads_item.php?id=3085&sid=...

JZM Shop page :

http://www.porschetuningparts.com/porsche-tuning/a...

As you can see, they're not cheap, but they're formulated using a very different technique to the SGL PCCB's. As a result they're far more durable and in the event of one getting scored/chipped, they can be machined to enable them to be used again.

To the OP, I'm looking for £4.5k for the complete set (fronts and rears) the ST discs utilise the original Porsche PCCB bells, and unlike the PCCB's, the ST discs can (and have been) machined by ST to gain perfect final balance. PM me if you're interested.

I think that ST discs are the way to go. how much for re-furbed and do they fit 997? or otehr GTx?

The JZM package of 4 discs and pads for 6.8k looks v v reasonable and certainly much cheaper than OEM......

I enquired about replacing CCM for a Scuderia with ST and here's the answer they gave me.. I believe it would be substantially the same with a GT2. I think the crucial bit would be to find the specialist which would re-use your bells and rebalance the whole thing. ST told me it would be down to the specialist to do this, they would only supply discs and pads :

"Thanks for your enquiry. Yes we do offer replacement carbon-ceramic replacement brake discs for the F430 Scuderia.

Our manufacturing processes is completely different from the Brembo one, we use continuous carbon fibre rather than chopped fibres. Chopped-Fibre is the standard material used in the construction of all the CMM discs produced by Brembo and found on many high performance vehicles such as Ferrari. Chopped fibre material consists of carbon-fibre cut into short strands and mixed with a resin. Continuous fibre material is made from layers of Poly-Acrylic Nitrile (PAN) cloth, a carbon-fibre pre-cursor, that are laid over each other (typically in a 0°/90° layup) and needled together to produce a matrix structure.

The final products generated by each process are similar, however the Continuous Fibre material benefits from higher strength and significantly higher thermal conductivity. What this means in practice is that our discs generally run around 100C cooler than Brembo CMM, which provides a more consistent brake performance and most importantly reduces oxidation (which occurs at high brake temperatures) and extends the life of the disc.

The feedback from the drivers that are running our brakes in the Ferrari 458 Challenge cars have also said that the brake has improved initial bite and feel compared to the Brembo brakes.

We have a few specialist distributors in the UK, any of whom would be able to fit the brakes for you. (...)

The kits we supply consist of a pair of replacement ceramic rotors and a set of Pagid RSC1 (road/track) or RS29 pads (track only) to go with them. They are designed to re-use the original bells and fixings so it is important that they are in good, serviceable condition. The specialist can check this for you".

Prices are interesting. You would then need to add labour to re-use bells & co from your old discs.

Did the original poster take up your offer?

If they did not I am interested.

At long last, a realistic alternative to steel discs when the OEM's wear out.

The big downside of steel being the reasons I opted for PCB's in the first instance --- less brake dust, better performance, much lower unsprung mass, and no corrosion !

So interesting also that the replacements may last longer than the OEM's smile

Hi guys,

Just to say I've got ST discs on my 997.1 GT3 and they are amazing......I wish I'd discovered them years ago. No fade, reduced wear and so little heat - you can actually touch the calipers after a track session!

No hesitation to recommend them.

Cheers
