I have just moved back to the UK and I'm looking to buy a car.

Originally I had planned to buy an early 911 (had even found one). Plan was to run it as just a fun car and share the M 135i with my wife. However, having thought about it more I don't think it really works as really need something I can use all year round - not that I would be using it every day in winter but need the option of a second car.

Have been thinking of alternatives.

One is a Caterham. Major plus point is that I can get the Caterham and the BMW in the garage (with any other car one would have to be on the drive outside). I have always wanted to try a Caterham. I used to ride bikes and if I treat it as a four wheeled bike perhaps it works in winter....but worried it will be a bit extreme.

Other two alternatives are a Boxster or a 993. I have had 3 993s (al C2s). Other 911s look better, are lighter, drive better, etc. But as an overall package I find the 993 very good. Certainly fun enough on the right road but civilised enough for every day use.

Problem is, having looked at the classifieds there are no C2s about!

Anyone with one they would consider selling?

Owners tend to hang onto them.

Good luck with your search.

Don't do this.

Same place as all the 964 C2s and 996 GT3s. As OC says, owners are hanging onto them.
There is isn't anywhere else to go after them if you don't want the later mass produced cars. smile

Good luck in your search though. I personally wouldn't use a 993 all year round, but that's just me. It's just hassle looking after a decent car through the winter. I'd rather stick a grand in a cheap car and get rid in the spring. smile

I have a 993 c2s manual and not selling!

Couldn't agree more with your comments: looks, soul, performance, heritage, air cooled, road manners.. Hard to beat as a package.

The only thing mine has is decat pipe and slightly freer exhaust. It's perfect.

Mine is safely tucked up in the garage.

Black with all black interior all the major jobs are now done, no expense spared. it took me over a year to find the right car, and that was before values went crazy.

I would imagine it's value has risen by 30 - 45 % in the 2 years since I bought it. Fabulous to drive, every journey an event.

Certainly wont be selling any time soon.

Mine is tucked up nicely in the garage, awaiting new springs, dampers, top mounts, RS clutch and LWF. All bought, and being installed next month. Then I'm off to Spain in July with her and the lads for 6 days of boys and their toys racing around the Pyrenees. woohoo

I might have to sell later this year though .... The wife wants an extention on the house. I'm fighting it. frown

Mine is safely running free on the empty roads of Sussex.

There were two slower cars that blocked me some of the way... in the car park at least.

and home in time for tea.

I've just got back from having a look at this one:

- Rear reflector, OSR tail light, OSF fog light need replacing.
- OS door seal needs replacing
- Front and rear screens need refitting - the front isn't bonded along the bottom (behind the wiper spindles), and the rear has some iffy looking wiring to the heater element.
- Carpet throughout has lots of stains and what looks like fag burns, plus random cuts and bald patches. Overmats and their mountings have also had it.
- Headlining is collapsing, especially around the sunroof.
- Centre console (around handbrake) is cracked.
- Steering wheel and gearknob need replacement or retrimming.
- Spoiler curtain split.
- NS window not working.
- Both hardbacks have totally had it - the NS is falling to pieces, and the OS - well, I'm at a loss to explain or describe what's happened here (especially given how well the interior usually wears). No motor functions working on either seat.
- OSF door card and OSR seat squab have random nicks and cuts. Various other significant wear throughout the interior.
- All four wheels need proper refurbishing - there's corrosion around the valves and on the spokes, plus usual kerbing marks.
- All four discs are scored, so probably caliper plate lift.
- A little wet around the bottom of the engine, but impossible to say further without getting it up on a lift.
- Generally the bodywork is okay, with the usual stonechips and entry/exit rubbing on the bottom of the OS door shut.

(Edited to correct OSR seat squab, and to add that it's actually a private sale)

It'll fly off the forecourt... hehe

Strange the interior is so trashed for 100k miles - I heard a story once that a careless owner = careless maintenance.

The interior could do with recoonolising certainly. It's also lost 85bhp somewhere.

I did wonder if I was doing the right thing selling my polar silver varioram C2 coupe at the end of 2012, on 102k and needing nothing doing at all, £20k seemed OK at the time....

Based on what I paid it was a good deal for me, plus I'd only done 1,000 miles in a year. The 996 that I'd bought a few months earlier did 2,000 in the first year I had it, I much prefer driving it and am more inclined just to get in it and go for minor journeys, so the driving pleasure is worth it. If I'd kept the 993 it would have got used even less, plus the 996 cost a LOT less. I got a Cayenne S (which I've done over 10,000 miles in, towing the race car, carting the dog around etc) around the same time as the 996 and the two together cost £5k less than the 993 sold for. smile
