Insurance is up for renewal on my 116,000 mile, non sunroof 1990 Carrera 4. Its just had £30,000 spent on it including an engine rebuild. It has a full history. It isn't very original. At all. £20? £40? Photos below

In the absence of any pointers I'll insure it for £40...

I can't help with the value of the car but I would suggest you talk to a broker before insuring it. I recently had a total loss on my car and assumed that the insured value of the car is what would be paid out. However, they paid based on 'book value' not what I had valued the car at. For me the difference wasn't massive but it may be in your case. You can nominate a value of £40k but if they look it up in Parkers and it says £20k that will be their starting point for negotiations. The other issue is that if Parkers say £20k and it is damaged it may be deemed a total loss for damage which is only a fraction of the real value of the car.

Thanks for the advice Dicky, they've asked me for a valuation ( adrian flux) for an agreed value. Ive also fitted a firex system, Europe wide tracker and a whole host of complex sequential systems / anti theft items wired to the starter, ignition and fuel pump so fingers crossed nothing happens. I must say their free European recovery service when the car broke down in France was nothing short of sensational; taxi to Marseille, two BA flights, taxi at heathrow. 911 taken to garage in UK. No charge. Fabulous!

I too am not able to assist with the value of your specific car, but as already mentioned you should be looking to arrive at an Agreed Value. I have this on my Track Evo through my broker, Pace Ward, and it was underwritten by an Evo specialist at Pace Ward's request.

I would suggest approaching someone such as Autofarm or Parr to see if they offer this service.

Thanks Trevor Autofarm is a good call, I'll pop by there and see what they think. If it is ever lost I would be OK with £40...I think trying to find a blue non sunroof C4 and going through what Ive been through to get to this stage again wouldn't be worthwhile again.

PS I had a Mitsubishi Evo VI RS in Silver ( not white) for a while, fabulous car 1200 kg, 364 BHP but no ABS. Fitted it with laser and radar jammers ( not detectors). Had a couple of too close calls in it...I need ABS!

Yes they can be a bit of a handfull with no ABS or any traction aids. Mine is running around 450 hp and similar weight to your old one.

As an after thought, it may be worth asking Adrian Flux who they would be happy with providing a valuation for an agreed value policy.

They will undoubtedly knock the valuation down a bit due to no radio.

Nice colour.

Love it, brilliant. Does that means you only pick up free internet or have some sort of SIM card? Excuse my ignorance.
