I have an '02 996tt with about 49k miles. I purchased it about a year or so back and have no idea when the plugs were changed and assume the coils are original.

I will be purchasing a set of coils made by Bosch (0986221016 / 99760210400) I found a deal for $208 shipped (anyone know a better price?).

In regards to the plugs I am getting conflicting info between Bosch 7410 and 7413? Rockauto states 7413 as does Autozone and Amazon. But Pelican shows 7410. Should I be looking at NGK, Denso or others?

The car has a tune from GIAC, aftermarket exhaust and intake (stock Turbos)if that makes a difference...

Thanks

With a tune you should contact the company offering the tune for plugs recommendation and use those and change them as per the tuner company's schedule.

As for a stock Turbo, in the case of my stock '03 Turbo I have the tech install whatever the parts manager shoves across the counter to the tech.

I can't say this is true for the Turbo plugs and the cross reference charts but in one case a Cayman owner went by a cross reference plug chart and selected/bought/installed some plugs based on the chart and the engine ran poorly. When I looked at the plugs referenced by the chart I could see the referenced plugs had recessed center electrodes (!) and pointed this out to the Cayman owner, pasted pics of the right plugs and picture of the cross-referenced plugs. The Cayman owner ended up going with back to a new set of original equipment plugs.

I just called GIAC they simply stated we use the stock plugs.

I am still unclear as to 7410 FR6 vs 7413 FGR6 I am assuming those are both stock equivalent but each site has a different suggestion (obviously not taking into account my stage 1 tune plus intake/exhaust.

I give the parts manager the VIN of my car. He looks up the part number for plugs and picks them out of stock and gives them to me, or the tech does this. This is the way I've selected plugs for both my Boxster and my Turbo.

I have compared the old plugs with the new plugs and sometimes they are not the same number on the plug. This doesn't bother me. For various reasons Porsche can change the plug part number and this references a plug with a different number on it. Maybe because the new plug is better, or the old plug has been changed and no longer qualifies for use.

Who knows? I just make it easy on myself and use whatever the parts department manager shoves over the counter when I order plugs for my my cars. I've had a number of sets of plugs in the Boxster -- after 280K miles naturally -- and a few sets of plugs in the Turbo -- plugs should be changed every 24K miles IIRC -- and I've never had a plug problem with either engine.

If you do not want to buy your plugs at the dealer parts department try to learn what the latest part number of plug is and then find out what plug this maps too -- brand and plug model/ID number -- and then buy a set wherever you want. The parts manager may accommodate you in this endeavor.
