New BBS E88's on my GT3
Discussion
Yep new from Gert. I ordered them in May. Very impressed with the wheels and I have to say the cup 2 tyres are something else. I have continentals on my OE wheels and the difference is night and day.
The slightly scary thing is the clearance (lack of) between the front brake calipers and the inside of the centres.
I am thinking about some 3mm shims / spacers.

Gert is a great guy and his business is simply ace!
You now have the ultimate wheel/tyre/brake combo mate, E88's are crazy light & Cup2's are also very very light (getting close to slicks light)..... in fact combined with your ceramics your there!
I wouldn't worry about the Rizla gap up front between caliper & wheel, they were designed like that. They are 9" & 11" with max Cup spec offsets and not designed to run with any spacers.

LM's are designed for road use and are heavier & stronger than the E88's which were made for track use. E88's also have a greater clearance for larger brakes.
Also, LMs are two piece rims whilst E88s I believe are three piece. The former are much easier to work with as the barrel is all one piece with no need to seal the rim, the latter gives you greater flexibility to modify offset and rim wide via different lips. For usual road and casual track use, two piece should be fine. More focused racers may prefer to work with three pieces and different tyre sizes etc.

I agree Gert is the man and very knowledgeable too. You now have the ultimate wheel/tyre/brake combo mate, E88's are crazy light & Cup2's are also very very light (getting close to slicks light)..... in fact combined with your ceramics your there!

The fronts are 8.5 x 18 ET40. You're right about rizla gap, it certainly wound't allow for any thermal expansion!
I'm not sure about the 3mm spacers but I guess if there's clearance, no matter how small, there's clearance.
Whilst in there I also changed out the stock caliper bolts for studs, much better solution..........

I'm not sure it's fair to say the LM's are "stronger" than the E88s, the fragility of the E88s and BBS's "not for road use" was to do with the old Mag centres needing regular inspection, the Ali ones which they all come with now make them pretty tough but using them on the road with the bare aluminium rim means lots of cleaning or the ste gets ingrained, anodising is the best cure.TB993tt said:

I was referring to the hoops more than the centres which is were the wheel gets it's strength. The hoops on the LM's are one piece and are a lot thicker alloy than the very thin light hoops on the E88's which makes them a lot more susceptible to road damage. Both the centres on my E88's & LM's are alloy with the E88's being the lighter.ontheloop said:

Ok my front are slightly wider 9J x 18" ET46 so my gap isn't so close... interesting on the studs, have considered this a few times myself. Did you make your own studs or buy some? The fronts are 8.5 x 18 ET40. You're right about rizla gap, it certainly wound't allow for any thermal expansion!
