Porsche 996 turbo cab
Discussion
I'm looking at 996 and 997 turbo cabs. I want it in black and must be manual. I have been offered a 996 turbo cab, 04, 50k miles in lovely condition and with fsh. Completely standard car. Comes with hardtop. Last service by a specialist less than 1000 miles ago. Will need service next August due to time (rather than mileage).. I can't see any evidence on clutch change (so I'm guessing it can't be too far away from needing one; although it drove really well). Subject to an inspection (to check clutch, rads, Actuators, boost pipes etc) saying it's all good, what's it worth?

I'm not looking to make money on it (although I wouldn't complain if I did), I just don't want to lose loads!
I'm very very tempted by a 997 turbo cab, but a £17k difference and the potential for quite a bit depreciation is putting me off.
my 997t coupe cost approx. 10k more than a 996ts with similar miles - for me it was worth it for better interior/power/looks (last one subjective) and younger life, think it will maintain a premium but may lose a few k more in depreciation just because it hasn't flatlined yet - but it will be immaterial over the 5 or so years I plan on keeping it for.I'm very very tempted by a 997 turbo cab, but a £17k difference and the potential for quite a bit depreciation is putting me off.
is the 17k comparing like for like in terms of conditionand mileage?
The mileage is the same on both cars. Condition is similar too.
I would prefer a 997 purely due to looks. I'm indifferent on the other matters (the power is nice but frankly the 996 is plenty fast enough, couple of years newer is nice bit private plates are going on, as for the interior I don't have a preference). A £17k difference just seems huge price to pay to get the headlights I prefer!!

If only i could find a privately advertised black 997 turbo cab manual it would probably be about the right money. They seem to all go to traders which I don't understand!! Do people not sell them privately for some reason????
I will when I come to sell, truth is I found it hard to find my black/black manual coupe, so many tips around which I was not interested in (cannot stand tip box, think manual Mezger cars will hold value well) - took 6 weeks but finally found one, wasn't 100% when I got it but is now.As you want a cab I suspect manuals will be even harder to find, as most cabs are boulevard cruiser owners so tip suits. Good luck, the chase is the fun exciting bit IMHO.

I suspect it's more that people don't buy them privately - when I sold my 6 turbo cab, I tried a private sale and got no takers. It's a fair chunk of cash for something that even those who know what they are buying recognise could have some expensive consequences. FWIW, I was never in the market for a 7 cab, just a 6. And I never, ever, ever found myself thinking "you know, this is fast, but what would be nice is something just a little bit faster". I ended up selling mine principally because it is so difficult to use the performance it has on the public roads.

I must say, my desire for a 7 has nothing to do with power. The 6 is plenty fast enough. It's purely down to the shape, especially the front end. It's just a big price to pay for the looks.FWIW, I was never in the market for a 7 cab, just a 6. I can't stand the tiptronic gearbox, having driven one there is no way I would consider it. Pdk is another story, but they are too expensive.

amen to that, get your point on the power thing, I found I was also hoping for an X50 when looking for a 6, then thought it is another tick in the 7 man maths box as all 7s come with more power than a 6 X50 (and I had no particular desire to tune either)What would you normally expect a trader to drop in price? I've found what I'm looking for but the price is more than I want to pay. The trader has had it at least 6 wks and won't move a penny on price! Is this normal?
Everything else I have ever bought from traders/dealers they have been willing to move a couple of k at this level at least. It's also a cab so at this time of year there won't be many buyers of it, I wouldn't have thought.
