thinking of taking the plunge and buying a 996gt3

I guess that the title says it all. I have fancied one for a while, i am thinking Mk2 ad would love a clubsport. They hardly ever seem to come up. My questions are.. what should i expect to pay? are there any cars coming onto the market? other than the normal things is there anything to lookout for?
I will keep the 993 for road use and use the 996 for the odd track day.

996 GT3's are so rare to market that each car tends to make it's own micro market i think. Most owners these days see them as keepers. They were very cheap (comparatively) for a while so there was a period where some cars may have been bought by guys who couldn't afford to maintain them properly. If you use a respected Gt3 specialist - JZM, Parr, Tech 9 etc. to inspect the car prior to purchase, you can go far wrong.
The most expensive item on a GT3 is the engine which is over engineered so thankfully it rarely goes wrong. For a car of it's performance, consumables are not expensive. look for a car with provenance if possible but because they are so few available, if you set your sights too high, you may be waiting a long time to buy one but if you do manage to find a decent example you are in for a real treat.

If that does happen I would be shocked and very worried. Gradual price increase can be sustained, sudden can not. 18 months ago the average 996 Gt3 was marketed around 40k, people are now trying to sell the same car for £65K. This has only been driven by greed and cheap borrowing.
Historically asset price bubbles and the speculative behavior associated with them tend to cause financial crises.

I think you're right about the rate of increase, however, with the 991RS and GT4 not available to buy new, the 997.2 RS and 991 GT3 at over £160k for a used one, this leaves people wanting a GT3 but not millionaires looking at 996-997 GT3 cars which at £60-£95k spread across the models doesn't seem such bad value.
In fact when you compare the car you get with them against say a 993 Turbo or some of the other air cooled stuff around the £60-100k price range there a bargain.

I remember buying my first 964 RS for £22k back in 2001/2. I subsequently bought a 993 RS for £34.5k in 2003.
Pretty much all pork (especially the GT and RS cars) have been undervalued for a long time now (for proof, look no further than the Carrera GT prices up until a couple of years ago), and whilst the several dealers are indeed pushing the price envelope of these cars, they're worth every penny IMO.
Will the bubble burst ? Probably. But don't think you'll be picking up an 964 and 993 RS at the levels I mentioned earlier in my post, 'cos you won't. And the chances of picking up any 996 GT3 for £35k are equally remote.
Any other pearls of wisdom you can let us in on ?

I can comftably purchase a gt3 996 if wished, over the past 12 months I have chosen to purchase another two rental property's which give me additional monthly income rather than jump into the speculative gt world !
I'm guessing you have kept both the 964 rs and 993 rs and now sit on half a million pounds worth of cars?

As in, yes this is probably the fullest list of things that can ever need doing.
It would have to be the worst maintained car ever for many items on this list to need doing at the same time. But that's where a good inspection would help.
Generally hewned from granite. I personally believe they won't be coming down fast...but you never know there may be more on the market once spring proper starts.
Took mine out this weekend....so so so analogue...
A new cup steering wheel and switchsble exhaust has added to the overall focus.

P.S What's that attached to the cage that I've highlighted ? And are those jubilee clips securing whatever it is ?
