thinking of taking the plunge and buying a 996gt3

Oh, i don't know what to do. The value is a factor, as it is a lot of money to me and i dont want to make a big loss. They are getting silly and the 997 gt3 is starting to look like a bargain, with newness on its side?
Difficult to advise someone else on this...particularly as everyone has different view on current pricing..so you are relying on your appetite for risk (which is a personal thing)My take would be 'what is your downside?'. I would have thought max about £10k.
Unless it is a lemon I do not see why they should ever go below £50k again...they are rarer by the day and are more appreciated every day.
Even if they do go to £50k, then that is still better than most other cars. However, in reality I dont think it would go even below £55k...of course they could stay where they are/increase slighty (I don't yet think they will rocket much higher either)
But in the meantime you would have enjoyed a great car in a great colour and great spec...what is the price of a great summer? At least £5k, no? The next one may not come along for a while.

We are about hit deflation, we are already there but the official figures are always a month behind.Every one else is in deflation mode.
When the market crashes a lot of people will get burnt imo like they did last time. People have short memories when every one went car mad last time and then it went to st.
Euro prices are already just normal, I don't get the UK it's just a very few rich people messing about with some cash while rates are low, once it picks up cars will all be for sale.
The middle man will also bail out once they can get a 6% return on cash then you sill see a lot of normal guys selling up the RS models and GT3 models imo.
people are only holding fire atm as the prices are still going up.
Euro crashing also making buying stuff in Euro's cheap that inc cars etc

I think prices will soften, but not fall of a cliff. It's not like people traded in their BMW 335ds for GT3s! For most, they are very much a second or third car.
A 2nd or 3rd car WHILE you cannot get a return , that's the KEY pointI would NOT have 3 cars if rates were high, rather get £500 a month interest or move house.
In fact even thinking of keeping the R when the GT4 arrives as Isa from April are the lowest ever, why bother !
when rates go up there will be a crash, it's that simple, people will cash in, it's knowing when that will be ! 3 years may be ?

That could be the most sensible thing you've ever posted.I'd keep that R anyway, it's lovely. If I had more money available as cash or could convince the wife that a Green Cayman would be a perfect addition to my red 3 I'd buy it off you.
Someone said se se sensible prices in Europe...
Mwahaha!
If you are selling a 997, yes, they are "cheap". However Ze Germans are not stupid. Zey hav seen ze kreizi raise of ze 996RS und are beginning to ask EUR100k for 996Mk1 and 2s. I have just spent 10mins on mobile - not a single Club Sport for sale in Europe (ex Switzerland) and 5 996s between EUR95 and 105k.
Really don't know what to make of this. I bought my car to drive it, not to make money out of it. Now though, I am beginning to worry about putting on the miles, as it appears it has doubled in value in 6mths. Wtf?

Where I bought the car (the price level) it mattered little if I put the miles on it or not, and if it depreciated. Now though, at 27,800miles it appears that I could potentially ask a silly premium for it, which certainly was not part of the plant. When you potentially can "achieve" 300% return, you certainly start paying attention to trivial things. LaSource said:

Done most of the above list to my 6.2 CS but at £35k 2 yrs ago reckon I'm still in profit. Interested in the switchable exhaust though, what and where from please??
The exhaust is from Nine Excellence. Picked up the car yesterday so not had the chance to compare against an earlier dyno trace of the car pre change. However, seat of the pants feels much punchier mid range....and more aural! Difficult to judge top end proper;y on dampish public roads...but feels promising.
My car had a factory fitted pse kit complete with standard dash button to switch the exhaust (not a regular option on GT3s but was available if you were nice with your local OPC). Ken has managed to wire up the exhaust flaps to the button so that I can chose loud or not loud...
The tips are standard GT3...so overall the car still looks standard which is the way I like it (well, apart from the BBS LMs and cup steering wheel )

This one?
Not quite the same spec, price £5K less than the red one at Chappell Sports but 14K more on the clock...

No aircon I think is the biggest reason for the "cheaper" price...This one?

Nice looking MK1... believe its one of one in that colour. For less money, I preferred the zanzibar car that 911virgin sold a couple of months ago.

Henna (or more likely Misano ?) Red. Some naughty cams and head work, Hartge split rims (incredibly light). Number 238 IIRC.
Manta 400 ? phwoar, I remember seeing a road version at Longleat whilst spectating on the 1983 RAC. A proper wide arch LHD, Russelsheim registered car, with all the decals, four headlamp kit AND the additional lamps in the front bumper/spoiler as seen below.
That was the first time I saw a Quattro with the Ronal 8X15" wheels too ......
Tell me more about the full works Manta (note the rather special Impreza I owned seven years ago .......)

I'd also be interested to know what this is like. Do they offer a switchable exhaust anyway, or is it just because you had the original kit? Did it include the cats?
They offer a switchable anyway. Usually it can be switched via a remote on your key fob. I suspect they can also link it to your revs. In my case I asked for it to be linked to my existing system. I have not changed the cats yet. Will probably do so in the future. So currently running stock cats. They do have a sports cat option too.
Funnily enough, I'm actually thinking about selling my 996 GT3 at the moment, but the biggest single thing stopping me is I'm struggling to think what I'd replace it with.
The few cars that I would easily take over the GT3 are quite a bit more pricey (£100k+), and I can't see much for similar money that I would actually get as much enjoyment out of driving. They really are fantastic cars to drive. Each time I start to think 'now would be a good time to sell', I'll go for a drive and ask myself 'what else could offer me this'.
