Convince me to get a 996
Discussion
I'm going to be buying a 'weekend car' this spring/summer, and while I thought that I was all set to return to Lotus by getting into another S2 Elise, I find myself constantly returning to adverts for early 996s (C2, manual, in silver, with ambers please).
I've owned a 986S in the past, so I know all about the issues surrounding the M96/97 engine, so I go into this with open eyes.
I've always wanted a 911 of some flavour, and I still kick myself for bottling out of a 964 purchase some years ago, when they represented the cheapest route in. With 996 prices as they are, surely I'b be mad not to go for it this time?...

I'd love to pick up a mint early car with ambers! retro cool!
I saw a picture recently of a silver 996 sitting in a dealer's garage, surrounded by various 80s/90s exotica from Ferrari, Lamborghini etc, and it really doesn't look like the Porsche should be a tenth of the price of the cars it's sitting next to. Edited by TTwiggy on Wednesday 25th March 22:16

I believe I saw the Autoperform/Goose 996 parked up at Oulton last week. What an 'honest' looking car that is.
OP - you know the 'issues', so shop with yer eyes open and get one purchased!
You did, and thank you, I washed it the day before (first time since November). It went well on track too, not that I did many laps in it.OP - you know the 'issues', so shop with yer eyes open and get one purchased!
I have the original ambers somewhere, no intention of refitting them though.

They can't stay this cheap for ever can they?
Sort of my thinking. About 13 years ago I was looking at a guards red 964 that was up for around £14k. I was all set to move on it when a shiny Audi TT distracted me. I don't want to miss out on a 911 again! - especially not at the price point the 996 currently sits at.This looks a decent car, although no other photos just yet.....

Yes not bad, some of the service history gaps are bigger than then I would expect maybe but looks OK. Not sure whether it was standard or option but that year has the EGAS/PSM. I prefer a cable throttle - '99 & older on 2 wheel drives? I'm just learning about these cars so could be wrong.
