whats peoples thoughts on the 3.4 with the areo kit?
Not keen myself, though I wouldn't discount one if everything else was good. I know it was a factory option but it just looks too much like it's trying to be a GT3 to me. A bit like 'M Sport' on non-M BMWs.FarQue said:

I'd be looking at a top spec M3, the worries that come with the 996 just put me off completely.
good thought but surely more expensive...?//edit
no wait I see some E36 models at less than the prices discussed above. Another one on the list, thanks

Go and buy an honest one that's been loved and used. Stone chips, bit of patina to the leather and the odd small dent on a car with 130K miles coupled with extensive and detailed history are only a good thing because there you have a car owned by someone who absolutely 100% wants it to get where they are going, that sees bits of suspension as way more important that blowing in the chips on the nose so it looks shiny and will always go for a new set of proper boots over some cheapos and a wheel refurb. These are the 996s which are still pounding up and down Europe today and doing it just as well as any modern car.
Both of mine are high mileage. They are almost identical (a 98 and a 99 C4 narrowbody with aero kits). One has just clocked up 120K miles with zero issues, the other is nearly twice that. Both on original engines and gearboxes. The really high mileage car is in daily use, clocks up a good 40K miles a year without even trying and last week did the Netherlands, Glasgow and some minor running around. It gets serviced at Porsche intervals and whatever it needs consumables and parts wise it gets. In over 140K miles of running it has never missed a beat.
It always seems to be the ones that do 3000 miles a year that have problems

Perfection.
It was seeing a black one of these in Stratford-u-Avon in around 2000 that got me into 911's/Porsche. Never really liked them before then.

As a previous e30M3 owner it annoyed me when the ///M badge got stuck on non ///M cars, As an owner of a 996 with aero I can completely relate to your thinking. What convinced me otherwise was the fact the Porsche fitted them as an option. And in my opinion a standard 996 can look a little bland, the areo makes them stand out but I sometimes wonder if the rear spoiler is slightly ott.
Cheers,
Dave
I know of a really nice 996 C4 3.4 that is going on the market soon.
Suppose it might be considered ideal spec - basalt black with black leather, manual and has nice options inc sports seats, sunroof and other bits..
Have to agree with other posts - value for money is currently unrivaled... its a 911 and is in fact a great 911 for what must be considered 'peanuts' !! My mates push bike is worth more!!

Unlikely to be basalt black on a 3.4.
What year is the car?
But yes, you're right. Amazing value for money, especially considering its a former EVO car of the year winner.
