I've owned my 2003/53 Speed Yellow GT3, comfort with buckets and rear cage since August 2018. Just 23k miles but I've added 5k of those, including a 2k miles euro road trip last year in 5 days!

I think it's a fair price given it's a Clubbie, in a bright colour, with 24k miles from a reputable dealer. If it had 50k on the clock (assuming it was a good straight car) it would be all of £70k privately wouldn't it?

There's a tiny market for these cars just need the right person. The clubsport at Paragon in red was up for ages high mileage and that sold, in fact I know the owner.

I agree 80k feels strong around a 996 gt3 (i didnt pay anywhere near that) but people are waking up to them and im seeing more on track again.

Was taking with Mike at Sports & Classic about this. He had a few in there when I was getting my car serviced last and many were in for track specific work.

People are spending a lot on these cars, with the clear intention of enjoying them, which is great to see. If you check out their Insta/Facebook page you can get an idea of the sort of stuff, but new diff and gearbox ratios are not cheap.

I saw yours there when picking up mine (red 996); we met before at RS day a couple of years ago. smile

Yes I saw yours up on ramps when I dropped off. There’s always plenty going on there and whilst they work on anything Porsche, they really seem to get a lot of 996 there.

The other thing I like is the fact they seem to have a good working relationship with people like 9e and also Wayne at Chipwizards - so there’s sort of additional, pooled knowledge of the cars. Clearly S&C have the gearbox experience, but then with the turbos and other stuff 9e lead and Wayne is a maestro.

Hi YK and HNY! good to see it's looking in rude health - that's one special GT3 you have there. And looks like you've done a bit of mod work on it since I last saw it!

Interesting to hear about folk starting to invest and use them for track days - I've seen a couple during the winter trackday season (although that's not really when people will use them I guess).

I use mine for 2 or 3 days a year and just bolt on a set of race wheels with trofeo R's - other than RS29's it's bone stock (suspension was fully refreshed and replated and a fast road geo applied) and it's mega on circuit - I'm not convinced it needs anything more, for my use case at least. Truly analogue, relatively light on consumables and fast enough to be exciting but still usable on the road.

I suspect a few owners are in the same boat as me - having had a 991 GT3, the significant increase in performance and reduction in lap times is at the expense of driver engagement and comes with a different level of consumable costs (specifically tyres and brakes).

As I've been laid up with the 'Rona for the past few days I've been digging out old copies of Evo magazine and it's really interesting seeing what the press made of the 996.2 GT3 back in 2003 - they reported that the 996.1 GT3 was a better road car as the .2 was too hardcore on road.

Nowadays a M sport BMW rides firmer (with its typical 20" wheels) than a 20 year old Porsche - my stock GT3 is no firmer than my '15 981 GTS (with X73). Expectations have changed considerably and I suspect we're all prepared to make bigger compromises in ride quality on the road for track day performance (or aesthetics for some). And of course road conditions in the UK are markedly worse 20 years on!

That RPM car looks almost too good to be used on circuit (like mine really) so I suspect it's destine for a collection - I'd be surprised if it's still available at the end of this month!

At the time Porsche made a lot of the fact that the gearbox was designed to facilitate the easy change of gear clusters to suit the circuit ... the MkII gearbox including an oil cooler.

I’m hopeful this is the year I get a GT3! (Want clubsport but be happy with anything) - I’m terrified that by the time I can do it (not before about May), that the prices will have left my budget behind

I’m saying that, it’s to use as a daily so a high mileage car will be fine, plus happy if it’s modded. It will be a keeper

And after buying my 996TT from Mike at sport and Classic he’s going to be my first port of call to see if he knows someone looking to sell, nearer the time!

I remember seeing your car there when it was being prepared for sale - an absolute gem. I really love the 996 turbo, but that was an extremely nice example.
