water drip under 997

what seems to be a water leak has started under 997.1 engine. it's coming from a disc shaped plug the size of a penny. anyone know what this could be?

Can you upload a pic?

There are a few core plugs dotted around the engine that close off coolant and oil galleries; maybe one of them has given up?

it turns out the white stuff is some sort of sealant someone has tried to stop the drip with! FFS. It may be a drain plug for coolant... that's what's dripping out.

You are correct that is the Coolant gallery drain bung; the aluminium sealing washer corrodes and then the leak starts - the residue is dried Coolant; it crystalizes as the liquid evaporates. A drain and fill will be required - generally the sealing face needs a good clean as corrosion can occur under the washer too - a deft hand with a new bung and washer can be a quick fix but it can get messy very quickly. Do not be tempted to remove the bung with any heat in the engine.
